i think their first major change was the AWD. i think they might consider it after seeing how the 350z convertable sells.

they waited 1 yr on the 350, so... that is their experiment. but, it could seem reasonable if they follow bmw path.

bmw has the sedan, coupe, convertable (and wagon, but i think infiniti won't go there). with the AWD available on the sedan and wagon.

With the backseat, its about as likely as a convertible Maxima. If they threw out the backseat, its possible. I doubt they'll do that.

Now why would you say that? Convertibles can't have back seats? Check out any BMW 3 series convertible. The C class convertible. My old Eclipse Spyder also had back seats. Having a 2+2 does not mean it cannot be developed into a convertible, I guess that's my point here...

They would have to keep the back seat...it would need to offer something the z doesn't...plus in the pic I posted it just doesn't look right as a roadster somehow...

 

If Infiniti ever designs a G35 convertible concept it better have a folding hardtop like the SL500 or the SC430.

 

If we are talking about structural viability, the backseat would most likely get cut out. Remember there is a strut bar IMMEDIATELY inside the trunk, which would kill any attempt at a convertible top. Without that member, the car, especially in convertible form would not have the rigidity that is necessary to pull it off. So either you'd have to cut deeper into the trunk, which would look ugly, or you'd have to kill the backseat, which seems more likely.

Personally, I don't like the photoshopped look of the Gvertible. I'd definately prefer the SC430 over the G for looks. If you look at the layout of the Z, it was much more convert-able friendly, since there was dead space behind the driver/passenger that could be utilized for the top storage compartment.

Plus, most people buy the G because it was more practical than the Z. I'm one of those people. I would not consider a G with a smaller trunk and no backseat. It'd be an overweight Z, which doesn't make sense. I really cannot STRUCTURALLY see them producing it. That doesn't mean we won't see something else in convertible form down the road.

I got the Gcoupe over the 350Z cuz the Z's interior was horrid. Plus, no Bose, or sunroof with Track options? Hell nah.
