My '05 6mt coupe is due for an oil change soon which I'll be using Mobile 1 Synthetic oil.
Which is the best oil filter for this application? OEM, PureOne, Mobile1, etc...?
I read an old thread which state that sometimes(only if need to replace if washer is worn) that I need to replace the copper washer while changing the oil.
I've never heard of replacing a washer when changing the oil and I've changed my own oil on other cars which I've owned in the past 8 years.
I'll look at my owner's maintenace guide tonight on this copper washer but does anyone have any knowledge in this?

i use mobil 1 w/ mobil 1 filter
i replace the copper washer. i just go to the parts department of my local infiniti dealer and ask if they have any (please, go directly to parts, dont go through a service rep). the mechanics just hand me a few washers. I heard of some dealers actually charging about $.99 for a washer tho. stilll, its not a big deal to get one
you dont have to replace it, but it gives me peace of mind

I just use the oem filter when I do oil changes and the dealer usually just throws in the washer for free. Since I live next to a Nissan dealership I just go there since they usually have cheaper prices than Infiniti dealerships since our cars use the same filters as the 350Z.
Yes, you should change the washer everytime you do an oil change because it is a crush washer that cannot be reused.

yes, you should change the copper washer because it's a crush type washer. It's not like a regular washer, the copper washer crush together once you put pressure on and it shouldn't be use again.

The manufacturer recommends a washer change at every oil change.Originally Posted by rgolden90

I highly recommend using an amsoil EAO filter. They don't need to be replaced as often and will save you the trouble of oil filter & underbody cover removal/installation. They also filter very well (when sampled, my oil only had 0.1% insolubles after ~6000 miles - same as when I had my bypass system installed.

I use Puralator "pure one" filter. I also replaced the stock drain plug with a Fram "sure drain" plug.No copper washers to replace and i don't even have to jack up my car.screw on valve oil comes out.Used it on 95Max, 94 300z,04 Max and now on my coupe with no problems.

Yeah. I got my washer for free when I bought my filter at Nissan dealership.

Mobil 1 is a great oil that I've used for 15 years
with zero problems! To save you some $ I'll offer
you a tip.........K&N makes some of the finest oil
filters on the market.....auto parts stores will charge
you from $10 to $18 for these filters. Do a search
on line under K&N and you should be able to find
them for like $8 ea and if you buy three shipping
is Free......nice. ( hp 1008 is the number) LOL
You don't need to change the washer when you
do the oil change.....maybe once a year but I've never
changed mine in two years.

Never changed the washer, and it's never leaked a drop in 32K miles. BTW, I use M1 oil/filter also.

I think I better find the owners manual and research it. Thanks for the input guys.
Changing the washer is like having insurance. You may not need it but it makes sense if you believe your investment is worth it. I usually go a couple of changes before replacing it.
