Burnt clutch?

I raced my G for the first time against my friends 350z and It was a disappointment for me I didn't even finish or get off 1st gear. As I took off 1st gear my clutch got stuck and I could'nt pop into second. The smell was terrible! I not sure why my clutch got stuck. HAs this ever happened to anyone? One I thing I do know is that before I popped the clutch from 1st to second I was reving the engine at about 4krpm. Maybe thats why It got stuck. How do I know if I really damaged or burnt the clutch? The rest of the drive was fine but the burnt smell has me worried!

What do you mean your "clutch got stuck"? Did you try to shift into second without pushing the clutch in all the way? Or did you let the clutch completely out as you were still shifting into second?

Either way, it's just details. The car will be fine, but you probably just burned a few thousand miles off your clutch. Don't race people unless you're really, really comfortable with the shifting motions. I heard a guy had to have his clutch replaced at my dealership at only ~5K miles because he had beat the crap out of it street racing. If you know what you're doing, you won't have that happen. But if you're new to driving a six speed, or even if you're new to the car, wait until you're more comfortable.

Try a search, here on driver, and on my350z.com. The sticking clutch is a common problem. I've seen it attributed to boiling clutch fluid, to a safety feature engineered into the car.

It happens.

the smell is common if the car is still new. as far as sticky clutch, never happened to me. Ive taken the car to the track and dump the clutch quite a few times, its pretty sturdy.

I pushed the clutch all the way in and as I let the clutch go to go into second gear it stayed in as if I had my foot pressed into it. I am pretty comfortable driving 6 speed but never raced.
How do I know if I need a new clutch???

If it starts slipping under load, you need a new clutch. If it is driving fine still, you are fine, but the clutch may wear out a bit sooner than it would have otherwise.

I've had the same experience as you.

However, there has to be something going on with numerous people experiencing that problem.

It's happened to me, but only when I was trying to show off how quick my car was with 3 large people in it. This was before there was any mods on the car and the car was fairly new. It hasn't happened since.
