Infinti is finally adopting the new SAE horse power rating guidlines which provide a more accurate representation of horsepower.
If you had noticed, last year Acura adopted the standard (TL went from 270 to 258, RL from 300 to 290). Most companies have adopted the new standards (except the German brands I think).
Again, the engine is the same, just now a more accurate number is provided. I'm very glad to see the coupe at 275. I was wondering how much of a difference we would see and 5 hp is almost nothing.

Nissan must be saving the motor for the new 08 coupes, with most likely more power. Remember folks, Infiniti has already registered "G37" and "M37", so u never know what Nissan may be hiding in their sleeves....

On the other side, why can't they just put the same VQ motor into the coupe as they did with sedan? Doesn't make sense. Unless they're really pushing to compete against the IS and not care about the coupe since there isnt' any other car in its class that's better. Corporate's way of making sales and saving money, I guess.

'07 isn't slower. It's the same engine. They just have stricter SAE dyno standards now so that ratings are more accurate. I wonder why they didn't put the '07 sedan engine into the coupes so they both could have 306hp.
I know the '07 sedan engine must be different, since it has a redline of almost 8k.

It's not about specs on paper/dyno
Great discussion.
Like many things, test specs only tell part of the story.
My buddy at work drives a yellow Lotus. It doesn't have a lot of HP, but it's
plenty fast. Discuss all you want, but I'm waiting to see what C&D or R&T say when the drive the production vehicle.
I've driven the current G35 (coupe and sedan) a fair amount and they're wonderful. I've drive a proto of the new 2007 G35, and it was a blast. Professional courtesy prevents me from give you guys any specifics, but I'm going to say that the engine is great. It's not a BMW M-engine with individual throttle butterflys, but it's still a really really great mill.
I personally like the interior a lot more than the current generation. The quality, as I perceived it, is way way up. I drive a $60k sport wagon, and the new G35 had no trouble holding its own to my current ride.
Let me close by saying the guy who planned the G35 is a stand up guy all around. In my opinion he knows what we all want, and has the driving expertise to maximize the chances that the '07 will be a winner in every category.
