i currently have a intake,plenum,headers, and y pipe installed on my car im saven up for hi flo cats and pulleys and a exhaust but anyway im an 05 5AT and my friend has an 05 6mt with an intake and muffler back exhaust. we raced a couple of days ago and i gained alot on him partially cuz i jumped on it quicker in the begining but all of a sudden 3rd gear which should be our strongest gear he started to gain on me like a f1 jet and i kept pushing and he said he let off the gas 3 times so that he wouldnt hit my bumper. I couldnt even stay ahead of him with the little jump i had in the begining. Im lost cuz i dont know whats wrong with my car its quick from 1st to 2nd and then in 3rd it just dies i loss all power i cant figure out why. I wouldnt care if he was on my bumper the whole way there but its the fact that he let off his gas 3 times is what made me confused and really agrivated. I have more mods then him but im an AT but he has less mods then me and is a MT we should be pretty even dont you think.

ALso i raced a stock 2006 wrx and we were neck and neck up until 50 and then he just walked 1 and a half cars on me.. Ive come to the conclusion something is wrong with my car its fine no clunking no transmission problems no squeeks (except for my rear axle needs to be lubricated) and no ECU light i dont know whats wrong my tire pressure sensor is light up but thats because my stock 18s were low and i never put air in them cuz 2 days later i put new rims and tires on my car thinking it was going to reset itself but it never did.

ANYHELP WOULD BE APRECIATED and im sorry for this long a$$ post!

 

Same **** happened to me, raced an 05 6Mt, i smoked him 1-2, as soon as i hit 3rd i was like, mother ******, and then he shot past me. He has an intake also and thats it. His looked like a rocket compared to mine.

 

^^awesome but still why is that the 6mt gears can hold out for a little bit longer then us but not by much im stumped like a dead tree i cant figure out why i lost close to 40% of my power in 3rd gear alone

You need 3.53 gears and he won't gain on you like that.... I have no problem racing rev up motors.....

Maybe he's running too lean up top and it's causing the ign timing to fall flat on his face? Need to run either a dyno session or have someone data log a run via an OBDII scanner.

So I'm in for the $50 if this is the cause.
