yeah, from experience you the best way to get it down is to figure out what your monthluy payment to based on waht the total price of the car is (30k equals roughly a $650-$700 payment over 72 months depending on your interest rate. So using that, if u tell him you arent willing to pay more than $600 a month on the car then they have to figure out how much they will sell it for to get u that rate.

I respectfully disagree with redsun. Its not about what you can afford.. thats the dealers game. Its about the real market value of the car..

I dont feel blue book is real car value.. its about where in the product life the car is in.. what is the demand for the car versus supply. One reason I bought mine last week rather than waiting 18 months (i waited 21 years for this one)I knew that the new coupe would be bought at sticker price or more .. as it should be. Draw a line in the sand of a price that makes you feel excited that you got the car you want AND the price you wanted. Thats the objective. And for me,looking before finding is half the fun.

And, when the moment hits that youve found THE car and the right circumstances, as I did last week, it all comes together, and you ride off into the sunset with your new whip.

The ? as i understood it pertained to gettimg the best deal you can get. The descisoin to purchase tthe car has already beem made, therfore the the emotional aspect should have no bearing on makig a deal at the dealership, if anything being too excited about a purchase tends to blind u to being able to not take what they are trying to make u purchase the product for.

Thx for the input guys. I picked it up today! I could only talk him down to 30,500, but hey thats better than before. I am not a very good negotiator but I did bring up a lot of the facts that you guys brought up and he agreed. Only problem was that I already originally talked him down from 33,000 to 31,000. Anyways thx for the help and I'll post some pics up pretty soon, although I want to do some stuff to it to make it a little more original ya know?

Congradulations! I sort of figured the final price was going to be $30.5. I think you got a good deal since it has nav.
I sold my '05 6mt coupe earlier this week for $31k with 12,900 miles on it. Mint condition except three of the wheels have curb damage from the previous owner.
My G had every option except nav.

Is your G a 6mt or 5at?

It's a 6MT. Why do so many people in this forum seem to have 5auto?

That's a good question. Perhaps their Gs are their only vehicle and they encounter a lot of traffic so it makes since to drive a 5at. However, I have a second vehicle(a beater) for work. As a result, I had(sold my G last week) a weekend pleasure car. I believe driving a 6mt is more enjoyable than a 5at on winding streets as well as acceleration.
But heh, to each their own when it comes to which transmission suits him or her.

Paid $29000 and got bluebook for my trade on my 05 6mt W/ 5000 miles with everything but nav. a few months ago. It was advertised for $34000. Had a deal made for a new lease but found this one and was able to buy it for about the same payment as the leased. I really wanted a new one but coulden't pass this up. I really didn't care either way about getting the new or used one. I told the dealer that and left and was called back 2 times with lower price. It sucks, but you have to play the game but it will save you a few thousand dollars.

You might want to check the tax rates for new cars vs. used cars. I know in Oklahoma, it costs a few percentage points more for tax on a USED car. That can make several hundred dollars difference in the final price. I guess the government will always find ways to take some more of our cheese.

If you do the math and they won't budge on that price, it might be worth your while to get a brand new '06 for a bit more, but pay less for the tax.
