Clear corner lights simple security system.

At $60 to ebay's rip off prices of over $90, clear corner lenses are not cheap and very easy to remove "Gee3five" asked if there was a way to secure them from easy removal, well I found a way to make it very difficult to remove them, PLASTIC TIES, you need a couple of 12 inch 3/8 inch plastic ties and a few minutes.
after installing the lenses you need to peel back the plastic wheel well by removing the three securing plastic holddowns and open to reveal the bachk of the light assempbly, slip tie through the retainong clips an secure, replace wheel well and retaining clips and you are done, by the way it helps if you turn the steering to the left or right to allow access to the wheel well, I am sure the thief would have a difficult time removing them . see the attached pictures for a visual enlightment.
Edited by tbusguru on 10/11/03 02:56 PM.

This is how the tie would look behind the light assembly

Re: Clear light simple security(even works on ambe

that's a great idea.. i'm goin to do that on mine tomolo..

narkotic does bring up a good point.. the potential thieves could have two reactions:

1) realize that they're not as easy to steal as people have claimed
or
2) be pissed off and start kicking or using something to start beating your car

personalli, i wud say take the clear corners and leave the rest of my car alone..

but i definitely think this is an awesome idea.. thanks tbusguru..

Re: Clear corner lights simple security system.

Where can I get Plastic Ties from? Local auto store? Hardware store? Grocery? Also, is plastic ties the official name for them?

Re: Clear corner lights simple security system.

A hardware store will have them as well as an electronic supply store, Plastic ties is an accepted name , also an auto supply store should have them, they are very strong and durable, to remove you have to destroy them , like cutting them.

Re: Clear corner lights simple security system.

I haven't tried it yet, but if this works it will at least send a message to those crooks that it's not easy to steal the clear corner lense from a G. Then they will go for an easier target like the Maxima's HID. No offense to the Maxima owners out there, but I heard it was easy to steal.
