I have the same exact problem and I was searching for an answer!!!

The headlights work fine when they're on but if they both don't go on right away you have to play with them to work. I also get a smell.

Everything I've read on switching bulbs says you can just plug in the new ones. Would like to find an answer - let me know if you find out. Thanks

i also changed mine to d2s 8000k, just plugged right in. haven't had a problem so far. and hopefully won't have any.

i used to have that problem once in a while in my integra. but then i just turn it off and back on and works fine. never figured out why.

I talked to the person whom i bought them from, and he is sending repacement bulbs. For my stock lights work fine. If the repacements work fine i shall let you know.

Make sure you have the right wattage for the bulbs because is the wattage isn't correct the ballast will fry the bulb giving your headlights a nice burnt smell. Also check your ballast. Prior to taking your car back to the dealer make sure you put the stock bulbs back in and tell them your lights are acting funny if they don't work (that way they can't void your warranty and charge you for new ballasts)

exactly, post the info on the bulbs if you're not sure they are the right ones

This is the same problem I went through. I did not modify anything. Brought it to the dealership and they told me they had to replace the whole "Housing and associated HID modules." Who knows. All I know was that it was covered under the warranty

A few months ago i got a pair of 8000k bulbs off ebay, they said to fit both
d2s and d2r and i payed aroudn 80$ including shipping. Like 2-3 days after getting them on i was driving on the highway at night and it was raining like crazy, i went thru a puddle and my right headlight just went completly off. So i put my OEM bulbs back on and took it to infinity..it was a fried ballast and problem solved..got my car back and i gave the 8000K bulbs another chance and they have been great to me since then. All i have to say is make sure u put ur OEM's on or you'l b paying for watever the problem is..they will find a way to relate it to your 8000k bulbs !

Cheap off brand HID bulbs will mostly likely turn off whenever it wants too. Either its drawing too much or less current that can damage the ballast. Stick to Phillips , Sylvania, or something that can be trusted . it will probably cost more but it will reward you later on with no trouble.
