Check Out the PAC Audio AAI-NIS adapter (http://www.pac-audio.com/default.asp). I have it installed in my car and have been pretty happy with it. It integrates with the factory system and is about $115. I'd also suggest you get a line amplifier as well, as when I had it installed the volume was about 1/2 of other sources such as CD/Radio - this will add another $40-50, and I had it installed for about $50. So you're looking at much less than what the dealer quoted you. It has two inputs, so you can integrate satellite radio and an i-pod if you'd like.

Here's a link to some guy's site that documented the install process:

There is one out there for 140 bux that you can use the same steering controlls. I'll try to find it and reply. There have been other threads for this discussion. Do a search. You should be able to find everything you need to know.

Yes - if it has an remote with their optional SWI-X Universal Steering wheel interface. I don't have this installed so really can't speak to it. The guide for the AAI-NIS2 has some more info on it:

I have the PA11-NIS for my 06 coupe and it works great. It's also compatible with the steering wheel.

Here's a DIY link for the USA spec ipod adapter.

$550 sounds a bit much. I just did mine a couple weeks back and it was very straight forward. Just take your time.
