How long will my 06 coupe last with everyday grinds?

Dealer said my 2nd gear was grinding because I didnt fully press the clutch. He also said I might have "shifted into gear before letting the clutch out". BS

Even when I do it slowly like a noob (floor clutch... wait half a second, then shift) it still grinds. It grinds everytime [ i shift above 3.5k RMP)

Is it only a matter of time?

If you let the clutch out before shifting into second, it will have a bad grind, but I'm sure you're not doing that at least 99.9% of the time.
600 miles.

Yeah im not doing that

let THEM drive it with you in the pass side, then see what they say.

I think I'm having the same issue. I just broke 1700 miles on my car and that 1st > 2nd shift is kinda "funky" in a grinding/clunking kind of way. I thought it was me. But the more I'm reading around the forums current [and past] threads... looks like I should be at the Dealer's Service center.

On my vacation I let two people drive my car warning them that the clutch needs to be fully depressed and 1st to 2nd may grind. Surprise, surprise that it happened for both people. Skater, does it mainly happen under heavy load? That's usually when I have a problem.

Also noticed that I'm having a hard time getting it into 6th sometimes, seems like it might be the synchro.

if you depress the clutch all the way and get grinding from your tranny, it needs to be fixed. the syncro is out. like i said before, go to another infinit dealership and write a letter or e-mail or call infiniti of north america and complain about the dealership that is telling you there is no problem.

Most every car is different when it comes to engagement points for the clutch. In my maxima I adjusted the clutch so that it was fully engaged with very little travel. Makes shifting very quick and easy for me. I hope you feel better informed now.

Actually the Maxima has a hydrauclic clutch that can't be adjusted. Of course you can adjust the clutch pedal, but you have to be absolutely certain that after your adjustment, the clutch plates will fully disengage. Otherwise you'll be buying a new clutch every 10K miles.

PowerTrain warranty should cover it. Just keep grinding away till you get a new transmission but you might have to keep practicing with the shifting.

Dude, if your car is grinding, that's not normal at all. Take it someplace else and get it fixed. Its brand new, the tranny might be a little tight, but it shouldn't grind.

As for the other guy with the 2nd gear "clunk", that's somewhat normal as far as I can tell. Especially if your car is cold and it's a bit chilly outside. You'll probably get a clunk or two going into second before she warms up. I'm not sure if that's gone away on my car or if its only because its summer still. Just got the car last November so we'll see what happens in a couple of months.
