radar detector

i have had the escort passport 8500 blue and for the past 5 monthes that i have had it I have just left it on auto (i guess as opposed to highway and city mode). I didnt read the manual because its too damn long and i dont have time for that shiiii. That being said, Everytime that fu**er goes off there isnt a copper in sight, and whenever one of them passes me i just look at the detector and it isnt making a sound. People say its the best money they ever spent but i just think they are stupid, probally because i am doing somthing completely wrong.

Anyone got any answers for my

I have an escort passport 8500 and it works great. I use City when I am local and Highway if, well I am on a highway. Auto is a kinda mix, what it's doing is adjusting itself for the lower bands like the X which is more common for garage door openers etc... So if you're city then it basically takes and weakens the X bands to almost nothing, but if you use Highway, then it turns it up a bit since some cops still use X bands. Then Laser kicks in when they shoot you with that gun. My laser goes off when I go through a toll too.

As far as a cop passing you and it not doing anything, not all cops have Radar and not all cops have it on 24/7.

I just got the 8500 also. Used it for my drive home from Florida to Baltimore (got a ticket on the way going down). Everytime my detector went off there was either a cop near by, or I was passing an overpass that had a radar mounted to it. It's big brother playing with your head. The thing will pulse every minute or so to make you think there's the man up ahead.

Instead of worrying about whether its working properly, you should be worried about how youre going to make up for the extra $40 you spent to get blue lights on your unit.

Some radars go off due to alarm systems such as ADT or Brinks etc. I have a Valentine One and theres a little strip here in town that if I drive by when everythings closed it will go crazy.

I've had both 8500x50 and now the V1...they are pretty much identical. V1 seems to be a little more sensitive and has the arrows, too bad the V1 doesnt have automute built into it

it seems like v1 is the choice to go with...but you have to remeber these things arent 100% sometimes cops leave their radars off till the last minute

my 8500 rocks and so does the blue lights..lol

I keep mine on HWY because it will give me better range in the city. As for
false alarms...all will do that...Auto mode should give you less false alarms though.

Cops in my area tend to shoot radar when they want too instead
of leaving it on 24/7
