Coupe Grill Alternative
Well after looking into all my options as in terms of aftermarket grills for the G35 Coupe, I decided to fab my own. I wanted to keep the lines of the oem grill, but wanted to do away with the Infiniti emblem. I also wanted to give the car a more monochromatic paint scheme, reason why I sprayed it black. At the same time, I also opted for a Stillen front lip. If anyone is interested in the "how-to" for this grill, drop me a line. I'll be glad to share it with ya, or even post it here....

Re: Coupe Grill Alternative

First off, you want to remove the Infiniti emblem (snaps off) and then remove the whole front grill. A few push types pins, and a twist type screw at each end. Using a Dremel tool with an assortment of metal working bits, I started to cut out the center support for the Infiniti emblem from the backside. I got all the edges clean and channeled everything out. I prepared a mold from the surface using a thin layer of high polished stainless steel sheet metal. Once I had the exact form of the grill (making it follow across), I held it in place with duct tape. Now I began to mix up a batch of ordinary automotive grade body filler. The stuff the body shop uses to fill in holes and dents prior painting. I poured and packed the inside of the grill and filled up the molds. I made sure to extend the filler to both sides so that it would have a sturdy area to bond too. Within no time (like 2-3) min, the filler began hardening. I waited about 5min and then removed the stainless steel mold sheets I had placed in the front. If I waited any longer, they too would have bonded to the filler. I now had the basic form I wanted, a clean grill that went all the way across. Now it was time to sand and fill in any imperfections (and they were a few). This time you can use regular Bondo, as its much easier to work with and a lot less messy. I applied 3 coats, waiting and sanding each coat down till I got everything looking just right. Lastly, I gave the whole grill a good wet sanding, making sure all the chrome was gone and it was as smooth as it can be. Next came 5 coats of OEM black paint, which 3 coats of clear coat. After letting it dry and settle in, I gave it a good biffing and wa-la! A totally unique and custom grill, I can truly say no one that I’ve seen has “so far”. I don’t recommend this mod to anyone, unless he or she has experience with such tools and material used. It’s very easy to screw up your grill, so if you have any doubts about doing so, don’t try it. Take it to a pro! I do have some “in the works” pics but I won’t be able to post them till sometime tomorrow evening.

Well hey listen up fellow G enthusiasts, I’ve gotten such a strong response to my custom grill that I’ve decided to offer my custom grill service to those who would like it. For a nominal fee of $125 US I would be willing to take your grill and custom fabricate it to give it that custom smooth no emblem look. My fee would include the customization of the grill and the safe return back to you. I do not however want to get involved with the painting of it. I feel there’s just too much risk of the grill getting scratched or ruined during the shipping and packaging process. What I can do is get the grill back out to you, paint ready, so all you would need to do is take it to your local body shop and have it sprayed. The cost for such a job would range anywhere from $50 to $100 depending on the shop and your vehicles color of course. Turn around once I receive your grill will be approximately 3 to 5 days. If things get busy, this may take a tad bit longer. I will also consider custom fabricating other Infiniti grills as well, but can’t guarantee it. The best thing that I could do is, you would have to send me a pic of your grill, front, back, all around, and if I think I can wing, I’ll ask you to send it to me. Once again, no guarantees, but I will take a look at it.

Beautiful job Ducati.... I also am not impressed with the stock grill so I have the Gialla frame which is being fitted with the black chrome Stillen insert. Just got the Stillen front chin spoiler in today....Again, great job on your grill...
Re: Coupe Grill Alternative
Can anyone photoshop a DG coupe with a DG grill like ducatiguy has? I don't like the stock grill, but I feel like the Stillen grill is too "out there" and that the Gialla grill is too empty.

Wow, that looks really sweet. I love the black on black. I'm saving up my money for performance mods at the moment, otherwise I'd love to get one of these.
tbusguru, I remember you talking about removing the infiniti emblem in the front for your ultra-clean look. You gonna do this mod yourself?

Rich... Yes it has been lowered. I installed a set of Sprint 1.75" springs. They really brought the G to stance the car was made to be at and the ride is awesome! On a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being just like stock and 1 being very poor, the Sprints are a high 8! No doub't about it! The change is almost unoticable, and quite frankly if you didn't know I had them, you wouldn't even question it.
I also swapped out the stock front and rear sway bars with NISMO's, and that was an unbelievable imporovement over stock! I highly recomend this mod!
Other mods that I have installed or performed on my G since taking delivery of it have been; an XM sat reciever, front and rear splash guards, aluminum pedals (thanks all in part to Grubbs in TX), an Injen CAI, Kinetix Racing camber adjustment rods for the rear, and lastly, 20% tint all around...
Future mods for later this fall will include a set of 5Zigen 19's (on order AGAIN, had a problem will a previous set that arrived damaged), and maybe an exhaust system (still haven't found one that I'm head over heels for)....
Later on down the road, once the warranty issue is not a concrean, maybe I'll take the charger or turbo route, like have done with every other car and truck I've owned...

Nice job. Nice of you to offer your services to those of us who don't have any skill in metallurgy. I also like the Stillen fron lip. It adds a lot to the front of the car.

Wow that does look killer... that is what I would like as well.. I have a DG Coupe... I wonder what color would look good with it?
