Nervous! Girlfriend took the G!

Had my '04 coupe for a full week + 1 day. There is only 200 miles on the car, still barely into the break-in period.

I'm out sick from work, and I was parked behind my girlfriend's Mazda 626 in the driveway. I tried to get up to switch the cars for her, but she said "oh sweety, you're sick, I'll take care of it"

So I go outside and the G is gone and she left me the keys to the 626. Sheesh! Now i'm freaking about the car. I called her cell: "dont exceed 3500 rpms, dont give it more than 1/2 gas, dont keep it at a constant speed..." Meanwhile I can hear her with the windows down, sunroof open, her stupid christina aguilerra cd blaring.

AM I just being paranoid, or did / do you let your significant others drive your G's? I dont want to be an ***, but that car is like my baby. I figured you all would understand

Re: Nervous! Girlfriend took the G!

My hubby drives my G once in a while, usually he treats it almost as good as I would. It probably helps that he drives an s2k. However, accidents do happen and his G time has decreased since he backed over a car battery in my G and dragged it down the street. Luckily, there was no real damage!

BTW, I know of several arguments that have started when one of my friends aren’t allowed to drive their significant other’s car. Although you just want to protect your baby (and rightfully so) it may be taken the wrong way—just a heads up! I’m sure your G will be fine!

Be scared, be very scared.

Then again, it's all about trust. Do you trust her with your car?

I personally do not since even though my fiancee knows how **** I am about my cars she still manages to goof up somehow, like scraping the rims on the curb, parking where she shouldn't be, etc. So, she more or less will not drive it unless I am with her.

Re: Nervous! Girlfriend took the G!

now im really nervous! she has been upset about not being able to drive the car since i got it. SO I can either worry or distract myself. I really hope she doesnt do something careless. She's not a careless person, but she doesn't love the car as much as I do.

I'll make good use of the time with her car to take it and get the oil changed...

damn, is it 6PM yet? i want the car back now

Run ... Run as fast as you can. LOL Girlfriend takes your car when you are sick. WARNING ... do not eat any food she prepares or drinks that she mixes for you.

Re: Nervous! Girlfriend took the G!

I've had my coupe for a month now. My SO drove it for the first time last Saturday night. I was drunk off my ****, so it was a no brainer... I was informed on Sunday that I repeatedly explained how to shift the car.. over and over.. Funny.. I don't remember that..

Re: Nervous! Girlfriend took the G!

I've spoken to her twice now..

"you didnt park it under a tree did you? Is it in the shade? Did you scrape the rims parking? How much gas did you burn? Are you sure you never brought it above 3500rpm? What was your max speed on the freeway? Did you blow my speakers with that silly CD of yours? Did you wipe the dash down after you were done?"

I'm sure I have annoyed her enough that she will never want to drive the car again

And i'm 100% positive that this will set-off the whole "I want my 9-5 Saab" discussion again. Good, I was resisitng buying 2 new cars in such a short period but if it will keep her away from my G then so be it, she can get a new Saab tomorrow.

Dude, we ladies are good drivers. She'll take care of it alright. But you should be worried if she'll return home tonight...

haha pretty damn funny post..

it's natural to be paranoid, but don't worry about it, everything will be fine.. jus take some getting used to..

seriously though, it's true what phdvamp said.. this type of thing can totally turn into an argument.. i wud suggest jus letting it slide.. i kno that was one argument i'd like to forget :P

Re: Nervous! Girlfriend took the G!

My wife is not even fond of riding in my G, so I'm not that concerned that she be wanting to drive it. She prefers sitting up high in her Town & Country (the kids call it the mobil movie theatre). That said, if she grabbed the keys to it, I'd just let her go, because when she's happy, I'm happy.

Re: Nervous! Girlfriend took the G!

Just one thing: when she gets back don't run to the car and inspect it from A to Z right away. Take a few minutes to give her a kiss, to ask her how her day went and ask her if she enjoyed driving the G, etc.

Don't make the same mistake I did last year.

Re: Nervous! Girlfriend took the G!

No one ever, EVER drives any of my babies unless they have proven themself to me. My best friend drives a 330xi and an M5, and he's more of agearhead than anyone I know. We've known eachother for 7 years, and only last year did I let him drive my OLD car (SHO).

Now, I know this is horribly sexist of me (but also logical), but while women do not account for the majority of the numerical total of accidents on the road, they are found to be 7 times more likely to cause one*. This is from the WSJ last year-- I'll try to find it. Anyway, all I know is that my mother took my SHO when I was out of the country and got in a bad accident. My sister once took the keys to my Mustang GT, and even though it's just my toy car, I still got pi$$ed when she wrapped it around a tree. Since then:

My aunt got ran a stop and T-boned a car
My sister backed into a fence (okay, that was just dumb)
A friend at school put countless dents/dings in her new G
etc.

Maybe I just know bad female drivers, but the laws of statistics don't lie, as they're based on factual observation. The ladies on this forum probably don't fall into this category-- from what I've seen and heard, they're careful and excellent drivers, but it's the ones who don't view a car as anything more than "just a thing to get from A to B" that worry me.

When I was 7 years old, my female neighbor in England told me "let me play with your toy helicopter, I SWEAR I won't break it!" She did. I never saw her again. This started a horrible ball rolling in my life... girls tend to come in, play with my toys, and break them

No, my gf would never drive my G. Mother Theresa would never drive my G (okay, kinda hard if you're dead). And my wife? Well, I would get my wife her own toy that I would not drive out of respect for her posessions. We'd also have our "family" car. I'm planning my life too much...

G

*(ie. there are 1000 men driving, 100 of which get in accident, and there are 100 women driving, 70 of which get in accidents. Women don't technically cause more accidents, but 70% of them do, as opposed to 10% of men)

Re: Nervous! Girlfriend took the G!

mstaxman,
my fiance is not thrilled with my 6mtC. she likes bigger vehicles. now she drives a buick rendesvous. prior to that is was a landrover discovery and prior to that a minivan.

like you, if she picked up the keys, even if we were together, i'd let her drive and just smile.

Wow, it seems like your family females alone accounted for the 70% statistic.
