Spoke to a couple of police buddies and they believe the following... the bar is actually from a broken spring leaf from the rear suspension of the pickup. Looks like he overloaded his truck a few too many times and neglected to check or fix it (which is a traffic code offence around here). Looks like it finally broke right in front of me - since it was under load, the broken bar shot out like a canon, hit the pavement, bounced over the car in front of me and hit my bumper full force. My friends also say I was lucky the airbag didn't deploy which may have caused me to lose control. I was hoping to maybe get the pickups' plate from overhead cams managed by the city, but it's too much work and the police have more serious crimes to investigate - no complaints from me. You guys are right - make lemonaid from lemons. I'm alive and happy to be writing about it. Be safe out there and thanks for your thoughts.

Not to bring a thread back from the dead but I was the one who got hit at 60 mph and it just happened again - this time to a friend of mine. A mirror fell off a truck and hit him in the face. It looks like somebody took an axe to his head. He was in a coma and just came out of it this week - he's alive but lost an eye and will need reconstructive surgery.
People, if you ever see anyone carrying an unsafe load, report it immediately!!!!

Holly shiett! Poor guy.

The first time I took my G on a road trip, a piece of metal flew off of a car carrier like a kung fu star and gashed my hood and continued over the top of the car.
I guess it could have been worse.

I am really sorry to hear about your friend. Something similar happed to my brother, he was side swiped by a trailer that had come off the truck that was pulling it. They put those safety chains on trailers for a reason. Anyway, I hope everything with your friend turns out ok.

jeeese, i hope ur budds ok man...sad to hear that these drivers dnt strap their load on properly...whats the number to report stuff like that.

cell phone comanies should have certain numbers stored in memory on the ohone as they are purchased....such as amb, police, fir, pot hole city, unsafe load hotline...all stuff like that...should be mandatory...i hope you frined gets better.
