Terrible Tint Job Rant

I will take the blame for this one. The shop convinced me it is illegal to tint over the brake light so they cut around. As you can imagine, it looks absolutely awful and I'm livid (mainly at myself for listening to them rather than the g community). In addition, there is some tint residue that I cannot remove from the driver door handle.

I called and complained. They offered to paint my brake light black (I have stone) which I declined.

I am taking the car back to the shop on Monday so they can clean up the door. They are also going to fit a new piece of tint in the cut out space. Is there any chance to salvage this project or will it look like hell?

On a positive note, I put on clear corners (DG) and changed all the interior bulbs to PIAA xtreme white and am very happy with the results.

Thanks for listening. Had to tell someone and none of my friends understand.

G/L with the repair. RCR has a point -- pop off the light cover.

I was in the exact same situation. I've just lived with the fact that I have this little rectangle around my brake light. I figure I'll just have my car re-tinted at another time.

Looks good from this angle. I should mention the tint is Madico Charcoal, 35% sides, 20% rear.

Not too good here

Poooor tint job....................

Lets face facts, you paid to have the tint job done the
way you wanted.......right? They talked you into
doing it diffrent, so take it back and tell them your not happy with the way it looks and you want them to
do the job correctly. I really hate paying for something I'm not happy with.....aren't you? LOL

Some tint shops just SUCK!

I Had trouble with my tint too!
My friend with a 350z recommended me get Formula One tint. The Tint is High quality since I was Forced to get the most expensive Ceramic tint because of my navigation. The dealer recommended Ceramic tint in opposed to the cheaper metalic tint because of the interference.

So i have the tint installed with 15% all around, they dont give me warrantee and as for only cash. What was soo messed up was the tint was cut my programed machine that I thought would cut perfect tint. Ended up having the passenger door tint replaced because it was cut short on the sides.

What was worse is that they ended up BURNING my door panel with their heating gun. Although they ended up replacing the $500 dollar door panel, they gave me soo much shiet for getting illegal 15% tint all around.

But for the highs, they actually was cool about the rear window light and took out the light for me to tint the whole thing. They also tinted my sunroof b/c it was a shade lighter with 35% ceramic tint. On the other side I paid for a $240 cash for the tint and received a new $500 dollar Door panel.

Yeah the 3rd light just slides front and off. Sounds like the installers didn't know that and were trying to take the easy way out. I would really recommend getting it all in one piece. Probably a little easier to remove the soonest you can get to it. However, from the sounds of the guys at your shop, i'd be scared to death they'd rip off some of the defrost lines taking it up....
