Where to get a 2005 6 speed ENGINE?

For those of you are are into tuning, and have accidently blown an engine, where do you turn to for a new engine? Are they difficult to find used?

Also, any ideas on pricing for both new and used?

Thanks... This info will really help!

^^ yea.. there's no difference between an automatic VQ and a manual VQ.. so if you can come across a VQ35 motor anywhere.. then just pick it up

No

^ Auto Vq's are tuned for torque and they scrafice a bit of hp whereas 6mt VQ are tuned in the opposite manner--more hp and less torque. I know for sure this is the case for 05 and 06 models, not sure for older ones.

If I were to blow my motor. I would take it to the dealership and have it service under the OEM waranty. If I had ANY mods (non-OEM parts) I would switch them out prior to towing it to the dealership.

If you are not covered by the warranty you should look on EBAY or local wreckage yards. Also pretty sure OEM 350Z engines would work with our cars.

no.

as far as i know there are two models of interest,
revup and nonrevup
the revup was used in 05/06/07 Gs with 6mt as well as 05 track/gt Zs and 06 6mt Zs.
the nonrevup was used on all others except 07Zs which will use the VQ35HR.

i am not aware of any differences between nonrevup VQs per auto/manual transmission.

We have 4 slightly different engines in our G35's all with different part numbers.

1.) Nonrevup Manual
2.) Nonrevup Auto

3.) Revup Manual
4.) Revup Auto

So... It sounds like it is very difficult to come across a Revup Manual Engine?? Anyone...?

as far as price, i have blown a shortblock on both a 300ztt and a twin turbo rx 7, and each dealership replaced them under warranty--i got a copy of both warranty reciepts and they were each around $10k.

umm.. the short block is all the same o.o

the VQ35 is the VQ35 theres MANY cars that share our block so finding a short block isnt hard. As for the rev-up and non-revup... the only difference is internal components. The block itself and crank are identical. only difference are the connecting rods. I believe the pistons are the same. Only thing you have to look out for is if your purchasing the whole 9 yards. The rev-up motors have variable valve timing on the exhaust as well as intake making the head design slightly different and the valve cover leaves a extra room for the sproket.

If your looking to re-build your motor I would try playing with warranty first. The worst they can do is deny your claim and give you your car back and expect the downtime to be around a month. If you want to rebuild it.. you can find any block w/crank that you want and work from there.. Theres a JDM stroker/bore kit you can buy. Co-Worker has a BADASS all motor 350z with that kit (but then again hes japanese and fluent so he can actually buy some of the stuff we see in option magazines lol).

I love this line...."For those of you are are into tuning, and have accidently blown an engine..."

Please say it isn't so...

Please say you didn't...

No, no, it can't be true...

Can he be saved doctor? Will he live to play again?
