Re: Borla
Yea they're awesome - If ya got $1300 to blow, otherwise the Borla's which sell for under $600 are just as good. Bottom line, they both will reduce under hood temperature considerably, and tune your exhaust pulses to a much smoother and even flow, thus gaining as much as 10+ rear wheel ponies through the entire RPM band.
Headers are one of those mods that some will swear by, while others think they're a waste of time and $$$. I personaly have seen and felt the gains a set of headers can make on a car, and must say its a solid investment in terms of bang for buck.
Drawbacks to having headers on a G include, tight working conditions, which makes installation a real bitch, and lastly, warranty issues, which can in effect void such components as your whole exhaust system, cats, and O2 sensors.
As for the Borla exhaust system, I really havent had anything too nice to say about the system. For starters the entire kit comes looking like a pep-boys outta-the-box special with dull and dirty pipes and cans, while other kits on the market are polished to a high mirror like luster. To some that may not mean much, and quite frankly it doesn't to me either, but I'm one to pay attention to every little detail.
Sound wise, at idle, and even at low to mid RPM's the Borla sounds very similar to the stock exhaust system. In fact, many can't even tell its an aftermarket system. It's not till you hit above 4500 RPM does the system come alive and more noticable rumble roars out. Interior noise level is once again very moderate up until the higher RPM's are reached.
Other systems such as the B&B are much more noticable even at low RPM's. They have a "raspier sound" and can produce a higher pitch upon accelartion vs the Borla.
Contruction wise, the Borla is not bad. It is a true dual exhaust, but it utilises a single can, unlike the Stillen which has two, but then again, the Borla is at almost half its price. Most every other kit on the market uses the stock single entry design with either a single or dual can, dual tip setup.
Installation on most of these system is really easy. The Borla will take a little longer due to the extra pipping and whatnot, but for the most part its a bolt-on procedure. The easier "rear only system" like the B&B can be done in under an hour.
Lastly, price wise. The Borla is very competively priced, in fact I think its among the cheapest. Dollar for dollar, the Borla system is a solid investement. If you want something a bit louder and more in the lines of a "tunnel screamer", then its B&B all the way which by the way is only like $100 more than the Borla.
Hope this info helps!
Good Luck!

Re: Borla
In Borlas defense, it is the cheapest out there in part to the fact that it is not polished. I for one spent hours with my buffer and mothers polish giving the muffler a mirror like finish. I don't know why though because you cant see the damn thing anyway. If you check the my350z site, a Z magazine did an exhaust shootout comparing many if not all of the exhausts for the z (very similar to our cars) The borla scored the highest hp gains with stillen a close second. I for one like my Borla exhaust and proudly where my Borla hat that came free with the system.

Tfasano...
How much HP do you think the hat gives you at the rear wheels? LOL I'm sorry I couldn't resist....
Second, even though I have my personal issues with Borla, it is a good system.
Enjoy your G!

Re: Borla
I say screw all that and wait for the Greddy TT to come out, then get your perspective parts. That's what I'm doing. I'm not even gonna get the I/H/E...I wanna see what's compatible with my turbo kit.

i heard the borla exhuast in person, it makes our car sound like a mustang
buddha, no kidding---is that a positive or a negative to you to sound like a mustang? To me, sounding like a small block v8 is ok, but not great. Frankly, the GC is pretty good as it is but I'm open to new opinions.

Re: Borla
If you are looking at aftermarket exhaust, I would highly recommend Fujitsubo's Y-pipe along with their cat-back exhaust. Very well made and fits perfectly. Had a look at the stock set-up and this looked like a POS compared to the Fujitsubo. Sound is lower in tone at idle and comes to life when you step on it. Not ricey at all, sounds very mean.
Re: Borla
I just got mine installed today. Both the headers and then exhaust. I think it's a big difference. Even at idle you can tell the differnece, it's really just a lower, deeper sound. And it just gets better and better as you rev up. A lot of my friends were against Borla, but they admit it sounds pretty good. And the price is unbeatable for a dual cat back. Most Japanese exhausts costs that amount and aren't even cat back. But I really think it's a balance between price, name, and sound. From what I've read, they're all pretty comparable performance wise.

Re: Borla
Yeah, that's right, I got the Borla Headers and Exhaust.
I think it sounds really good. It actually isn't as loud as I had hoped, but it diefinitely sounds different than the stock exhuast, not necesarily louder. But on the higher RPM's, it's definitely noticeably louder.
