slip light staying on w/ vdc "off" and drifting around
I just got new tires (falken azenis, not installed yet) so I figured I'd get the last bit of fun out of my old michelin ps2's. I turned "off" the VDC. I slid around some obstacles in this huge empty parking lot last night, and did several donuts as well...I know definelty not good for the whole drivetrain.
When I was done my "slip" light wasn't blinking but constantly on
. After about 30 seconds with it on, I turned the car off and thought that would work. Well it did but igniton took a little while to start. Does anyone know why the light stays on and for how long? Why would it still register a slip with the VDC off. I've heard of the VDC never really going off in the 350z. Any thoughts on the slow start up too? thanks

I made a thread about the same thing a few months back, I got some good feedback too...check it out..

Happened on Track
I actually had the same thing happen when I was at the Track doing a HPDE. After about the tenth lap or so (could be earlier, but I hardly looked down at the gauges) of driving with VDC off, I noticed the SLIP light was constantly on. It was my first time seeing this and was worried that I had broken something on the car. The car still felt fine and drove no different than it did before. The lights were normal after switching the car off and on again.
The difference in my case was, I wasn't doing donuts or any hardcore "throw the back end out" kind of manouvers. So after the event, I came home and searched the forums and read about that Mode 0 thing. It seems valid to me, but my only question is that, if it was indeed a Mode 0, it was odd that the car didn't feel any different than when it was in just the "VDC Off" mode? Or maybe it was just me and I didnt feel it, or push it enough to feel it?
Has anyone felt or can tell a difference b/w VDC Off and Mode 0?

But here's my take on it...when you shut the VDC off, the car knows you want to control the car as much as possible. SLIP control is still ready to jump into action for extreme situations even when VDC is off. But if you make it utilize the SLIP control enough when VDC is already off, the car just "gives up" and let's you do whatever the hell you want, without all the electronics interfering with slides and stuff.
When the SLIP light stays on, and VDC is off, you really don't have any electronic safety controls on. They're totally shut down. No longer will the car attempt to brake or cut engine power in an effort to control the car when traction is lost. And powering the car off seems to reset it back to normal, restoring the VDC and SLIP functionality if you want it back. I interpret this as intelligent and intentional design by Infiniti. At least we CAN shut it off when we want to - not all cars allow 100% driver control like our G's do.

Oh and by the way Tony, it isn't difficult to make the SLIP light blink when gunning it hard around corners, as I'm sure you were doing on the track. You don't have to fishtail all over the place to get the SLIP function to engage. I notice it even when I'm driving in a straight line and try to launch with my winter tires - I don't get great traction with those things and the SLIP light comes on more often than it does with my summer rubber. You may not even notice that the car is losing traction or sliding for the minor stuff that can trip the SLIP function.

ha HA, I found the answer to this question!!! The G Service Manual, which can be gotten from a Stickie on the main G35 Coupe page, discusses this issue in the Braking Control System section.
I quote, "If a malfunction occurs in the electrical system, VDC OFF indicator lamp and SLIP indicator lamp in combination meter turn on, VDC/TCS will be deactivated and it becomes equal to that of models without VDC/TCS. However ABS is controlled normally. If the malfunction occurs in the throttle control system, then VDC/TCS with be deactivated and only ABS control will operate normally."
It also states in the section several times that turning the car on and off will restore normal operation.
I interpretation of what this means is that the "malfunction" as the service manual calls it can be induced by turning off VDC and pushing the car so that it automatically uses TCS, causing the SLIP light to come on, but continuing to push the vehicle causes the "malfunction" thereby turning off TCS/VDC. Thus allowing our cars to be driven hard and left to our own devices. THE VDC/TCS WILL NOT COME BACK ON IN THIS MODE, according to the service manual.
Hope this helps
I just ran into this situation this morning on my way to work. I was making a left turn from a dead stop, and I didn't give the car a lot of gas, so I was really amazed to see the VDC "Off" light and the "Slip" light come on and stay on. I drove about 1/4 mile down the street to the gas station, pulled in to get a Red Bull, shut the car off and pulled the parking brake up. When I got back into the car and restarted it, the damned VDC "Off" light AND the "Slip" light were still on, and when I released the parking brake, the "Brake" light stayed on.
I have tried to cycle the ignition, (I've turned it on and off numerous times), and none of the three lights have turned off yet
. It's been almost three hours now since this occurred, and I just went out and checked the car, and all three lights are still on, (yes, I remembered to release the parking brake).
So far, everyone who has posted about this situation occurring has stated that they:
1.) Had their VDC switch turned "off"
2.) Restarted their car and the system reset itself
I am the exception, and I'm concerned. I had NOT turned my VDC off and my car won't seem to reset itself when I cycle the key. (Not to mention I have pissed off my parking brake and it's light is now staying on)
.
Any idea's of what I did, or what's going on?
Again: did not have the VDC turned off when this occurred!

I was reading a thread in the "Sedan" forum, (mine is actually a sedan but I found this thread by doing a search), and a lot of people were talking about this issue, but only two out of about 20 said that their "Brake" light was on as well, (like mine). Someone said that their dealership had suggested that this can occur when it's time for new front brakes. (I am not too sure that is a reasonable answer, but you know how dealerships can be).
Anyway, any other suggestions? Or has anyone else run into the situation where the lights remain on after numerous key cycles?
(I just went out again and cycled it about 10 times waiting a little while between each cycle, and everything is still on)
Sounds like you have a problem with the BCM control module, and if removing the battery for more than an hour and the replacing it doesn't reset everything and solve the problem, then you should take it into the dealership as it sounds as if the BCM needs to be replace.
That's just my two cents.....hope it helps

I thought that was funny. i'm just easily amused...eehhhhh. yeah
