Man I know what you are talking aobut. I had that happen to me in a Mustang 5.0 that I was transporting for a friends auto body shop. SCARED THE you know what out of me. Once I finally got the car stopped I got out and walked away from it for about 5 minutes to calm down! Glad your ok, but I agree about the floor mats.

cruise control is smart enough to disengage if the clutch is in.

Floor mat, make sure the floor mat is *locked* into place near the seat with the little plastic button. this problem was documented awhile back (a couple years ago IIRC) Glad your quick thinking got you out of trouble.

Happened to me too in the G. This was in 2004 and only happened once. I was on the way home from a red eye from San Diego to Chicago. As I was leaving the airport the tach shot to redline and stayed there. My reactions were the same as yours, accept that I put the six speed in neutral and kept tapping the throttle. My next course of action would've have been turning off the engine and man handling over into the shoulder. I also chalked it up the the floor mat being the culprit. It sits up pretty high behind the gas pedal. Like I said, It only happened once in my 4 years of ownership, so don't sweat it. Just keep an eye on the floor mats, they shift upward sometimes.

I thought it might have been the floor mat and I DID check it, but it wasn't. I have the OEM A/S mats (the stock ones are out). I've had these mats for 2 years now and they are locked in place by that pin next to the seat - it couldn't have moved anywhere.

If it WAS the mat then it's a serious design flaw. I would suggest anyone with A/S mats to keep an eye on those - maybe even trim them down where the gas pedal is.

This may turn out to be a serious liability issue for Infiniti. One thing is for sure though: The car is going for a check up. Can't be too safe...

It's good to hear that your OK. Sounds like a floor mat. That happen to me on my 300zxt. My mats were old and stiff and it slid forward and jambed against the gas pedal. I pushed the clutch in and shut it off. I thought it might be the linkage binding. But I checked it after I stopped. We haven't had that problem yet on the G. But I will be aware if it happens.

Dude, glad you're ok. And nice reactions.

I've never had that happen to me. The SCCA requires you to remove your driver's-side floormat for solo events. Makes sense now.
