how'd you stop the car when you turned off the car? didnt you say u were slowing down from 80? and im pretty sure you didnt pull the e-brake since your still here typing. Did you slam on the brake pedal with the car off??

I was able to cut the speed in half by stepping on the clutch to disengage the engine from the wheels and then started braking. I quickly brought the speed down to about 40mph but unfortunately couldn't wait any longer because the engine was pounding on the rev limiter. I decided to take a chance by shutting the engine off and apply force on the brake pedal. I knew I would lose hydraulic pressure once the engine is off, but I didn't want to damage the engine either.

No kiddin'. That plaza at the T-intersection sure looked like one big final destination... For a second or two I thought I'm gonna ram into that place and exit the back door.

First of all, a big thank you for this thread. I read it a couple of weeks ago and guess it stuck in my head. Had a similar experience the other day but fortunately I was on a straight empty road and was not going very fast (yet). When the gas pedal stuck during a shift, I immediately remembered to shut it down before any engine damage occurred. In my case, I'm guessing the culprit was aftermarket all-season mats. Did you ever get a probable cause for your gas pedal sticking?

Update:

Car is at the dealer. Just got a call from the dealer saying that they can't find anything wrong with the gas pedal but that is does make noises.

The dealer is ordering a new gas pedal assembly.

Everyone is claiming that it is a floormat thing. Doesn't your car have the hooks to keep the mat from sliding forward? I know my '03 5AT does, but maybe you're using a different floor mat. Definitely have the dealership check it. It could be a bad throttle cable or something, or computer problem. Honestly I don't even know if our cars use throttle cables anymore, probably computer.

**Edit - Yeah, i guess I didn't read the last page of posts. It's been covered. Glad you're ok. At least you got a nice addrenaline shot. like nitrous for your head.

This may seem like a dumb idea, but instead of downshifting and rev matching and turning the engine off did you ever think of hitting the brakes?

totally agree with that, floor mat can block your gas pedal or brake!!!

yes, it does have a hook to it but for most of us, we use extra floor mat...the rubber kind to keep the dirt/mud above the original infiniti's mat. That rubber layer is the problem!!
