Check out my Modification Guide

I had to write a technical report for my technical communications class, so I chose the topic of modifying the rev-up engine. I sort of rushed it so it's not perfect but I think it's a pretty good summary and would help a lot of new g35 owners. Here is the body of the report; for those willing to read it, the guide starts at the INTAKE section. And for the rest here is the modification chart I developed.

Check out my Modification Guide-chart.jpg
textversion.doc

Any input would be much appreciated.
Enjoy =)

ps - the actual report looks much better with color and pictures of each part.

The pricing is not visually appealing. Just by looking at it, you should be able to gauge how much it costs. If you stick to a right-aligned pricing list, I think it would look better.

Also, if you color coded the difficulty and aligned it, I believe it would be easier to read. Or you could get rid of the text for the difficulty rating all together and use a miniature bar graph. The stars look great and it is easy to tell which mods receive the best ratings. Good job.

I think you should mention that the diffculty rating is based on those mods only. I mean there are way more difficult mods then the ones listed obviously.

Maybe even rate the difficulty by skill level or atleast make a key.

Like easy - anyone
moderate - beginner
difficult - average diy guy
professional - shop mechanic

something like that. Also there are some star ratings I totally do not agree with. What were the bases of the star system?

like this....

Each modification on the guide has a rating of one (*) to five (*****) stars with the following rating system.

* = Loss of power
** = No loss or gain of power
*** = Minimal power gain or too expensive for the power
**** = Moderate power gain or reasonable value for the power
***** = Large power gain or excellent value for the power

Each modification is also rated for its install difficulty.

Easy = Little or no experience/basic hand tools (screwdriver, pliers) required
Moderate = Some experience and socket set required
Difficult = Experience and socket set required, install time > 1 hour
Professional = Professional installation recommended

Thanks for the comments

thanks for clearing that up, but maybe you should put that somewhere on the chart so that everyone else knows what you are talking about.

you just have to realize that no one knows what you are thinking unless you explain it to them and without the additional information you just posted I think that the chart you made is not as helpful as it could be.

Also the star rating system kinda mixes two different categories together. Maybe a column for hp per $ would be helpful?

And how come the headers are only three stars when they are cheaper and produce more power than a cat-back?

Other then that it seems pretty good. I mean I know it's just a school project and the teacher won't even know what half those things listed are but if you want it to help forum members I think that a couple of tweaks will make your chart that much better.

Did you check out the actual guide at all? The link is right below the thumbnail of the chart.

Mostly because of the difficult installation and because I haven't seen any dynos of headers adding more than maybe 10 hp.

I'll work on it some more and see what I can come up with
