Who here has REAL personal experience with the Skunk2 plenum spacer?
So who here has real experiences with the Skunk2 plenum spacer? I just ordered mine today from www.jvgmotorsports.com and got a pretty sick deal on it. Several people have said that the Skunk2 is a lot lower quality and such, but I wanted to see who has a bad personal experience with it. Not someone who knows a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy. Real first person experience. Mine should be at the shop in a few days, so I'll let ya'll know how it works out!

I have skunk2 5/8 plenum spacer under a first generation crawford plenum. The quality is good - make sure they use a torque wrench and don't over tighten it. Mine looks great and performs as expected: lacking on lower RPM range, a little sluggish initially but once it kicks in around 4K RPM and above 50-60 mph, you'll definitely feel the kick and your G will take off, the acceleration from 70-120mph is incredible, almost immediate. I can exit onto the freeway, floor it and it kicks all the way to 70-80 rpm and I don't even feel or here the gear shift kicks in until 60-70 mph or so - and I watch the RPM climbs up to 4K rpm. That's my personal experience and I'm no engine expert or mechanic - based on how the car sounds and drives. My skunk2 was professionally installed by a motorsports shop specialized in Z's and G's less than 2 months ago.
how come they all those spacers are crappy in the low RPM's and dont kick in till the later ones? I usually never go past 3500 so wish there was something out there for low RPMs.

do you mean 70-80 RPMs or 7000-8000 RPMs? If your G makes it to 8000 RPMs, someone must have put a freakin rotary engine on your G when you weren't looking because it is not possible for our cars to hit 8000 RPMs We have something called a Rev Limiter in our cars buddy. Once we hit a certain RPM our ECU cuts the fuel...
you've been running on a crawford with a spacer?!
your lacking in lower RPM range is due to the lack of tuning that is pertinent with that type of setup. The F/A ration is going to run lean in the lower RPMs because of it. Once you are over that negative ratio point, you will feel it.

under 3k the spacer vs stock are basically the same HP wise. it isn't until you hit the 4K mark that you will really feel the difference. In the 3ks you will start to feel it build vs stock and once you hit 4200 RPM all the HP is there and up. Most of the gains are from midrange RPMs
if you are looking for low range hp, buy a GTO or something lol... a catback exhaust may help with low end, but it really depends on which one.
or you could always get a nitrous setup that is programmed to engage from like 500 to 3500 RPMs, but it would be a waste.

it would have been obvious if he said 70-80 MPH.... but 70-80 RPM is a completely different story as is, now isn't it
OMG, before and after is like night and day... Power increased from idle all through to redline, my G is like a whole different machine since the Skunk2 5/8 spacer was installed. Before the spacer all I had for mods was the AEI CAI and that was a noticable improvement in mid & high end, and the sound is really sweet. Then the spacer was installed and the car is much meaner and sounds it too.
I have not dyno'd the car but here are my real word test results:
My buddy has an 05 6MT track 350Z and I have an 04.5 6MT G coup... After the CAI, but before the spacer, I could barely keep up with the Z; this was consistant, many runs from many different speeds, after the spacer, I can pull away from any range.
Please try it, you are going to love it

I must add this!
Since the spacer install I have gotten as high as 28MPG on the hiway on a 750 mile round trip I make about every 3 months and can easily get 23-25 any day on my work commute and that was in the summer here running the AC hard. City driving on weekdays average over 21. Also, I can easily pull hard from 20mph in 4th gear, 30MPH in 5th gear or from 38MPH in 6th gear, better than before the CAI and spacer
(NOTE: before I get a bunch of "those RPM's are too low" or "your lugging it that low", those who say that are full of cr*p, I read it in the manual the first week and when just riding around in traffic, there is no need for higher gears; this is where the good city MPG's come from).
The only other thing I have done is switch to Royal Purple synthetic oil and I always run Shell V-Power fuel because I noticed long ago my G performs best on this, she loves it.

Your getting very cool air that is rushing under the car anyway, there is more more than just sound your gaining. Look at the air box that is used and tell anyone that air will flow through that thing easily; It will not... Hell you can even see the thing shrink up alittle when you rev up fast; there is a definate compromise to performance to muffle the engine sound for the masses. I've seen enough dyno proof to support this, don't get me wrong, there is no huge increase, but there is performance and efficiancy increase for sure.
That seems like a really thick spacer to have under a crawford plenum. Maybe that's why your low end is suffering? How was it w/ only the plenum or spacer?

ROFL
not on G's buddy, maybe a dyno for a mustang where you can actually get like 40hp out of an intake, but this isn't a ford... our cars are designed to max performance. the gtube and "power duct" are stickly for sound baffles
VERY cold air eh? lol.
LOL
lol
you are looking at max 1-2hp whp... if that
a ztube is basically just as effective as a CAI. you are buying SOUND with a CAI for our G's
everyone knows that
