Joining Rear ended club... pic inside

my heart's broken.. like my G's rear bumper.

Some Rustain kid wasn't paying attention to the traffic light. When the left turn light turned green, he thought it was time for him to take off too (didn't realize he wanted to go straight). BANG~~ there goes my bumper. I tried hard to keep my G out of trouble, car cover, taking 2 spaces at work, always garage kept.. still... at 4500 miles mark, some kid hit me from the back! He offered to pay me out of his pocket if the demage is around 7~800. What do you guys think? I've searched here and freshalloy and got various results. some people said it cost them around 650 to replace the bumper, and other mentioned more than 1k... i am really pissed..

There is a big hole right next to my license plate and a few tiny scratches on the shiny, zaino-ed back~~~~~

I just rear ended 3 weeks ago. Here's a picture of it:

Your bumper doesn't look so bad, so you could push out the dents [are there even any dents] and get a paint job. That would probably cost around $200-350. If you want it brand new [like mine is...mine looks BRAND NEW. no one can tell] expect to pay around $650. A new OEM rear bumper from nissan is $250. Add that to paint job and installation it should be around $650. It also depends on the installer of course, and the quality of the job. I wouldn't really settle for anything over 800, looking at the damage of your car. If you can post more pictures, I can help assess it better.

thanks!! there is actually ZERO dent on the bumper. The only big demage is the HOLE by the plate frame. I think it's asking for a new one.. I am not sure how they can fill up that deep hole without giving me a new one. One question tho.. was your energy absorber demaged at all?
It's too dark outside, and this is the only good pic that I have for now. I will make sure to take more pix when I come back from the dealer. $$ is not an issue since that Rustain kid is paying for it... I kind of wishing it would cost him a little more to give him a lesson~~~

I hope he doesn't disappear on you. I've heard a lot of stories where the kids just disappear on you, so I'd get as much info as possible. Even if the steel bar was dented, its really not worth replacing. To replace that it'd cost over 2 g's (at least that was what I was quoted). I don't believe mine was dented.

GET A POLICE REPORT!!

I got rearended and the only thing that saved me was a police report. The kid completly dissapeared. If your not going to get a report then get the money from him ASAP. Good luck.

That really sucks. I noticed that you CA plates. Are you in the LA area? If so, I know of a guy that will do the repair at your home. He did my 1991 Maxima rear bumper ( Super Black ) and the bumper turned out looking better than new. He's very reasonable. He works at a body shop M-F, and does side jobs on weekends. If you're in the area, let me know.

Awwwww. sorry.

GC,
From past experiences a one to one payment ussually does not work out well, get his insurance and report the incident, since He was at fault even your deductible should be taken care of by his insurance.
After all that is why we pay them high premiums.

You really should start driving that car, I already have over 16,000 Miles on mine, remember my motto " You can't enjoy it, if you don't drive it"

Same kind of deal for me, but my car was parked and I wasn't in it. The perp didn't leave a note either.

Get his insurance information, tell your insurance co. about it, get an estimate from a good shop and get it fixed. If it's in his out-of-pocket budget then he won't have to claim it. Otherwise he'll have to take the hit; it's part of car ownership.

Sorry to hear that. Despite it being 'just a car' I'd be depressed. I do not buy into the 'just a car' bit. Hope you get a happy resolution.

HA! I can't believe you put on 16k already!!! Maybe you are right, I should really start driving my G.. treat it like my beater car... then.. I probably won't be so sad when it gets hurt or something.. lol..

Got an estimate today.. from Redwood Infiniti's referral bodyshop. It will be about 844 + hidden demage cost!

The kid has been nice so far.. called me 3 times today. After I told him about the hidden demage cost, he decided to let Farmers take care of it for him. So, so far so good.

Guys, please don't schedule any meet b4 my G gets fixed.
