6MT coupe performance in snow/ice ?

The snow and ice will arrive soon,.... since I got a 2004, can anyone of the 2003 owners give their impression on how the car performed last year in snow/ice?... does the high torque cause any problems?

I'm going to get 17" Pirelli snowsports on the CSA gladiators this saturday to get the G ready for the snow...... this is not my first RWD car, however my previous ride (5AT Lexus GS300) was not as powerful though.....

'03 6m/t coupe sport. Useless in the snow... not to mention downright dangerous. I'm currently looking to add blizzaks and 17'' rims before first snow fall.

Re: 6MT coupe performance in snow/ice ?

well last year my coupe held up well in the snow. i can say anything for a 6mt but my auto was pritty good. u cant drive like u do in the summer u gotta take it down 5 or 6 notches. the VDC will save u many time over in the snow. 17s and snow tires are a must and other then that u are set. its not that bad just take it easy no racing in the snow and u will do fine.

Syntro,

What size tires did you buy for your winter package? I realize that you purchased 17" wheels and tires, but what aspect ratio and tire width? Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Re: 6MT coupe performance in snow/ice ?

I just put my winter tires on yesterday. I got the blizzak 50s on 17 inch rims. There is no snow here in NJ/NY yet but I just wanted to be safe. Today driving to work I spun the tires doing about 50 (slip light). Those handle nowhere near the pilots, I miss them allready and the rims. I bet it will be good in the winter though. The thread on those blizzaks is sick, they look like suv tires.

I've got Pirelli snowsport 210's, the fronts are 225/50/17, rear are 235/50/17.. The rims are alloy 17x8 FRD30s to clear the Brembos (or CSA Gladiators..same thing).

I'm currently in a serious shortage of money, and will have to make through the winter with the stock 18" (6MT). Is there anyone out there who was crazy enough to leave these tires on during the last winter? How bad was it? Please no speculations, I need real information based on experience of someone who actually took a 6MT coupe for a ride in the snow with its 18 performance tires on.

I tried it. Any amount of snow or ice and you wont be able to move the car. On roads that have been cleaned off its possible BUT only at slow speeds and no quick acceleration at all, keep in mind the pilots take a long time to worm up to start with. Personally I would strongly advise against it, many times last winter I left the car at home because I was just way too scared to drive it. Now I got my blizzaks on ... actually kinda want some snow so I can test them out.

Thanks G35Gnome,
Like I said, due to shortage in money I will have to do with the Pilots. I guess I will have to take it VERY VERY EASY with these tires....

Re: 6MT coupe performance in snow/ice ?

I bought them from "big_h" in Alberta, a member of this forum. I won't know where to find them in US, try your local Infiniti dealer, I know some Infiniti dealer in Toronto carries them ?

My transaction with "big_H" went smoothly and I'm happy with the way they look and perform. I payed around $1900 (Canadian dollars) installed, balanced and shipped ...... that would be around US$1400 I suppose....?

I'm at work so can't take pics, but you can find pictures and the proof of Brembo clearence on big_h's site and this thread in the Canadian section....

The link above has a pic of Haggis4all's car with the FRD30's installed on his red 04 Coupe.
