Toooo much for salvage. We bought our 04 6-spd used a couple of months ago and it was $23,000 with just over 30,000 miles. You can find a used clean title one if you do the search. I would never touch a salvage or rebuild tiltle car. It's just asking for trouble. If you do decide to buy it, ask for the complete maintenance history(dealership printout)and what was damage and replaced. Car Fax the vin number. Check out the shop that did the work and see if they are a respectable shop.

 

I have quite a few freinds that have purchased cars with salvage titles and have had no problems whatso ever with it. For a car as new as a G35 you really don't have to worry about it have being in a bad accident. The most likely thing that happened was that the car was stolen a while back. I would talk the guy down to at least 18k though.

 

I would say even closer to 12K for a salvaged title. Don't know if you are paying cash or not, but most banks have restrictions on how much they would load on a salvaged title car as well, so check your financing.

 

Salvage cars are worth no more than half the value. You might be lucky and get one with hardly any damage that will work fine, but make sure you plan on keeping that car till it dies, cause you most likely will have problems selling it. Since Infiniti will not warranty salvage cars, you're taking a higher risk, that's why the price is usually very low. If someone in my family owned or worked at the shop, I might consider it if the price is rediculously low, otherwise, at $20 grand I would save up a little more and get one with clean title to save myself problems and worries.

 

i saw a salvage silver g35 on ebay go for 14,000. It looked brand new. they showed the damage pics from before, it was like two bumped in quarter panels and a replaced headlight and grill or something. they are asking way too much

 

You just answered your own question. haha It really depends on what damages made it salvaged? I wouldn't touch anything that had frontal damages especially if it involves the engine and/or transmission. Do a carfax before you think seriously about purchasing.

 

What's a normal retail for a low miler 04 coupe? $25,000? In order to get a salvage title, it's normally about 75% of retail. So this car has sustained AT LEAST $19,000 in damage. More if the accident occured earlier in it's life (ie when the car was worth more). It only has 14k because it probably spent a TON of time in the shop vs getting driven.

If you wan't an inexpensive rebuilt G35 call Jim at Turbo Toys in Tampa, FL. I know many people in town and all over that are driving his cars. Rebuilding these, 350z's, and Supras is what he does in addition to other things. He does quality work and I don't know anyone who has bought a car from him that wouldn't reccomend him. He has been there for a long time which says something.

P.s many of his cars are rolling around without problems pushing 400- 700hp.

 

Yeah, 20k does sound a lot for a salvage title.

But it is rebuilt, so maybe try to see how bad of an accident it was in.

 

^^^^ that is very true, I have purchased cars like that b4. I been dealin with salvage cars & clean title cars for 12+ yrs so im kind of an expert on this.

20K is to much for a salvage G but the car has a rebiult title so it is not salvage anymore it just has salvage history. & has passed state salvage inspection already.
FYI I see salvage rebiult G35 coupes go on ebay all the time for $18K-$21K depending on (rims, tv's, mileage, etc. etc)

my advice ....find out why it was salvage and:
1. ask for pics from before car was fixed (they usually must have them before passing inspection) if he says he doesnt have them, maybe hes hiding something

2. if it was a stolen recovery then have a mechanic check it out & drive it. If alls well ...go for it

3. If it was in an accident I say stay away if u are not realy familiar with checking for frame damage, checking wire harnesses near crash etc etc

4. If it was in flood I say stay away

5. If your still having serious doubt then dont do it unless u like to gamble

another FYI I bought my G salvage & but my advantage is I know what to look for in a damaged car, I used to work in a bodyshop. my car was in accident but sustained no frame damage had 3,400 when i bought it in May 06 & I fixed with all genuine OEM parts (thanks to my friend who works at a Nissan/Infiniti dealer)

my car drives like new & looks new & has only 6,500 miles on it as I type
04 6MT, brembo, sport pack, aero pack, 05 stock 19's & still has authentic "new car" smell ...I spent a total of 13k only issue I have is tire pressure sensors arent working but i really dont care about that

the before pics had bondo all over the quarter panels & door, those were (in the process of gettin fixed pics) the seller didnt show the real damage, I think whoever bought that car got fvkked even at 14k.

 

the thing with salvage title cars, is you have to worry about the frame. A lot of the time when cars are in bad accidents and they get totalled it's because of frame damage. Frame damage is very expensive to fix and rarely are repairs to the frame comperable to a new undamaged one. Lets not also forget that our frames are reinforced in some areas with composite materials. Composite materials often do not show signs of ware up until they fail.
