No coupe for 5 month!
No coupe for 5 month!
Yup we already had snow, it all melted but I took no chance and stored the G away today and she probably won't come out untill the first or second week of april.
I bought a very clean 1997 corolla a few weeks back that should be a very good winter beater...but damn I'll miss my G.
It least my baby will stay cleaned for a long time.

As do I.
Basically he does not want to have to see it get REALLY dirty, take the chance of sliding or being slid into, not being able to wash the slush off for 3-4 months.
Loves the "G" too much.

Re: No coupe for 5 month!
and it sucks in the snow.. if there is snow on the ground and the road hasnt been plowed and salted.. ITS not the car to be in. As bad as my old mustang. All rwd cars are horrible. My dads bmw 5 series is bad too.

Re: No coupe for 5 month!
Dude, don't store your car. Just drive it when it's not snowing, duh. My G35C is my only car and I live in NJ (where we get a decent amount of snow). What do I do? I am getting snow tires mounted and balanced on my stock rims and I will just continue to wash my car once a week. This is what I have done in the past and it works very well and my car stays very clean, even during the winter. And of course, when I am not driving my car, it sleeps in my garage.
Re: No coupe for 5 month!
I live in Minnesota and the G is my only car, so in order to combat the snow I bought a set of winter tires mounted on 17" wheels. I hope that would do the trick. I sure would like to have a winter beater, but at this point in life I can't quite afford that yet.:P (well, unless I sell my sportbike or something...gotta stop getting toys that can't be used in the winter...)

Ahhhhh fawk you Cali boys! *joke*
I wouldn't be afraid to drive the coupe with winter tires in the city but almost every 1-2 weekends I have to go up north and some of thoes back roads can be a real p.i.t.a. if you are not driving the right car with the right tires. Have you guys ever tried to climb uphill in 8-10 inch of snow on an icy bottom with a car like the G? In thoes conditions an SUV would be the best but a light car with narrow winter tires will do the trick.
The fact that the risk of accidents are way up in winter and also the fact that we use alot of calcium&salt on our roads doesn't make me want to take out the G for a few months.
MrElussive: I don't have enough place for 2 cars in winter(we can't park in the streets from 1am to 6 am) and by storing the G35 it's resale value will stay very good.

Re: No coupe for 5 month!
Driving in the snow is all about the driver. I drove my v8 '00 firebird formula through the past 3 ct winters with the stock wide summer/performace tires and never had a problem. Just drive S-L-O-W and carefully.
For rwd traction controll makes a world of difference because staying in control is all about managing power delivery. Abs is great too. The g has good wieght distrobution but you might also want to put 1-3 45lb weight plates in the trunk (from a sporting goods store) but only put them in when needed as to not hurt your shocks....that'll give you more bite as will good snow tires of course.
Also practice in every empty snow covered parking lot you can. Besides being fun you can learn how the traction systems work and test the limits of the car's handling at different speeds.
But mainly just drive slow as hell and stay away from idiots and steep hills you you'll be fine...

Re: No coupe for 5 month!
I drove my 88 mustang GT one winter, yes I was able to do it but didn't like it at all...once you get more than 5-6" of snow that thing won't move at all. I couldn't even fallow a Geo metro on 1" on snow %&%?&*%&!!!
Also with a beater I'll save about 1 000$ in insurance.

Re: No coupe for 5 month!
Yea, but did the 88' mustang have ebs, abs, tcs, limited slip, etc?
I have a beater too but I'm selling it because insureance for both cars gets too expensive and I couldn't drive just the beater for that long. Like I said, my firebird (with abs/tcs/limed slip) was fine in the snow...I'll find out soon if the g is too!

Re: No coupe for 5 month!
it all depends on the car.
i once had a fiat spyder. was GREAT in the snow. RWD.
just gave up a FWD saturn, sucked in the snow.
had a small mazda RWD pickup, 2WD, day after blizzard in NJ last yr, threw my snow blower in back, drove to friends house to "blow them" , it was great in the snow.
all depends on car and driver
04 6mtC, DG - possibly most babied G on the board.

StudlyMobile: I agree, my 1992 240sx was great in the snow with good winter tires and about an extra 50lbs in the back.
justme97: The only thing I like in the snow is the limited slip, tcs is good at highway speeds but will slow you down in deep snow by applying the brakes every time the wheels start to slip a little.
Anyways there is so much **** flying on the road in winter here in montreal(sand, rocks, salt, calcium, ice) that there would be 1 000 000 paint chips on my G next spring. Just by driving it in summer I got like 10+ paint chips on my front bumper, nissan has a very low quality paint.

Re: No coupe for 5 month!
Just back from up north and I had to push a sedan that had 4 17" winter pirellis and was stuck in a few inchs of snow.
We almost didn't make it up the hill with a caravan on 4 brand new michelins.
I'm so glad I stored my coupe.

Re: No coupe for 5 month!
I put my car in storage too last week here in Winnipeg. The 18" tires arent rated for winter so I'd have to buy new tires. That with the salt, ice, slush and the fact I have a car/truck to drive in the winter it makes sense.
I imagine living in a place with no snow would be ok for a while but I think I'd miss winter.
