Car Help

Hey Everyone,

My best friend has been living with me for about three weeks now. His marriage is in a very "rough spot" right now. He has a coupe and also does his wife. When everything was going well in their marriage, they help each other by paying 50/50 on both cars. Both coupe are under his name, he is "stock" because, his wife does not want to help pay for the coupe now. He just sent in the payment today for her coupe and she said that she is not going to help him pay it and he should just return it or sell. They recently got the car too, about 4-6 months ago I believe. I don't think he could return the car right? What options, if any, does he have in getting rid of it and not having to lose out a lot on it. I told him that I've seen people sell their car by asking a small amount and then take over the payment, but I'm not exactly sure how that works. TIA.

tiny text owns you

your friend cannot "return" the car. He can try to sell the car and the buyer would either pay off the loan or take it over at w/e amount is agreed upon. He may be able to sell it for a little more than he owes on it, or he may not. He'll hafta work it out with the buyer. (I'm assuming that the financial institution he is making payments to has a lien on his title)

there are some companies out there that will outright buy a car off of you. ... one is called : ... Car (something)

I'm sure some people with more experience will chime in shortly...

Cash in hand rocks

Tell him to just pay for the one he drives and let his wife deal with the other. If he pays for the one he drives the other will get reposessed. Just make sure he pays for the correct one.

He said both cars are under his name. What a lesson to be learned. Good luck and hope everything works out.

Take both to a dealer and trade in for an 08. He will probably drop 5 grand in the deal, but it saves him have to take the time to sell it privately.

Wow, she sounds like a real sweetheart. No wonder the marriage is on its way to dissolution.

As mentioned above, if he needs to get out from under the lien quickly, as it sounds he does, I would either sell the car to CarMax or trade both cars in on another vehicle....possibly a much cheaper vehicle in an attempt to save all I could for the impending divorce proceedings.
