Need a key made (no FOB) dealership wants around $200

OK so I was picking up my car today from the dealership for some service I had done and I inquired about having a key made. I lost my other set at some bar about a month ago, so I'm down to just 1 set plus the valet key. They said after the key purchase and the programming I'd be looking at spending around $200. I was shocked, especially since the guy told me around $100 over the phone. The service guy explained to me that it's around $100 just for the key itself, without the programming. I'm already planning on purchasing a new FOB off ebay and programming it myself.

As an avid forum reader and a bargain seeker I KNOW that I can find a better deal on this. What have you guys done to get new keys for your G's?

I think only the dealer can program the key to have it actually be able to start the car. You need to bring ALL the keys to the dealer with the new key so they can all be made to work. I don't have the keyless remote since I have an '04 and I can't tell you what that needs to work. Good luck.

Call around to locksmiths in your area. At least one has invested in a SDD machine (programs keys) and has the means to get your vehicle's PIN. My company does (Memphis,TN) and we charge $40 per key. The key is $12 wholesale and it takes about 20 min. to add new keys. All keys to the car have to be present or they get unenrolled. Don't be surprised if $60-75 is the going rate in your area but the stealer's $200 is unnecessary. The upside of the deal is that your lost key will no longer run the car.

Can you program the keys with just the vehicle's VIN? If that's the case, have cup0spam send you some blank keys for programming.

A machine has to be connected to the OBD2 port to program the keys. The VIN is no help at all in making/programming keys.

that is the old way, there is a newer machine out that scans 1 key & then programs the next key in about 5 seconds ...no hooking up to ODB2 or anything, car doesnt even have to be there (only to make sure key works)
its kinda like copy & paste in MS WORD lol

my car only came with 1 key so I just got 2 keys made & programed last week (after procrastinating for about a year)
1 key I got from Infiniti for $70 cut but not programmed they wanted another $50 to program
I went to a locksmith in my area & they programed the Infiniti key & gave me a generic key & programed that also paid them $90 for everything

...I almost argued with the guy, I was like u charging me $90 for something that took 5 sec!!! but he said that machine cost a few grand i couldnt argue with that!

First I've heard of a cloner working for Infiniti keys. That is what you're describing though. Any of the locksmith available tools (machines) are at least a couple of grand so it's not worth it for my company to buy a cloning machine. They can't be used to originate keys for the car so all you can do with it is duplicate keys. A SDD machine imitates the dealer's diagnostic machine and will "enroll" a new key. If all keys to the car are lost then your $2000 cloning machine is useless. Of course that's why a SDD is $5000.

Um, once again, NOT. The M35/45 use the same key as the G according to my info. The Q45, however, is still dealer only so they'll bend you over for their $400 if you want it. My info is only current to '06 though so I'm not referring to current models.

This is the info I'm referencing. I know this company will support their product and try to keep their facts straight.

I got a couple of Nissan logo transponder keys off ebay for $20 each. Had them cut and enrolled by a locksmith using a SDD machine for $90.
