hahah, I've been driving stick all my life and my G for over a year and still can't get my shifting right all the time (I only suck on this car ). I only have problem on 1st and 2nd and the only way to get a good shift all the time is if I really focus 110% on my clutch release.

I can't for the life of me get it to shift smoothly from 1-2. other gears are easier when you let out the clutch slowly. it takes too much effort. i don't even try when i'm alone.

SAME HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been driving stick since I was 16!!!!! (Automatic cars in South America are for rich people!! Anyway, I feel the same way!! The G has been the only car that I have trouble sometimes shifting gears!!! (only 1st to 2nd)

It's been said that our clutch is on/off with its engagement, so it only awards you when you did it exactly right. However I did find ways to make it smooth and have worked quite well. Clutch all the way in, let it out to about 85-90% mark hold briefly and gas before you let it completely out. I only do that to have completely smooth shifts with zero jolts, on the track, I just clutch in and out as fast as possible, which is smooth for track purposes.

Hahaha, same here. I really have to focus to get it 100%, but not so smooth shifts do not bother me, only the wife. And if she complaints, guess who is driving? (Not the G!)

The only way I have found to shift smoothly is to shift 1-2 early. When I say early I mean as the car starts rolling shift to 2nd and then from 2nd to 3rd, 3-4, and the rest are pretty smooth.

I shift 1-2 early when I have passengers - otherwise, driving alone - I don't care about the jolts as mentioned before.

hahaha, my wife always compare me to her Boss (A Woman) and she keep telling me that when she rides with her on her Z4 that it is so smooth and that I dont know how to drive stick I keep explaining to her that it is not me and driving smooth to 1st to 2nd doesn't mean she's a great driver

You have to either shift at lower RPM's or let your revs drop between shifts.

Try double clutching, that's a good way to force you to drop RPM's between shifts... and you won't wear your throwout bearing out as much compared to if you held the clutch in an extra second or half a second between every shift.

Only when she's stone cold is 1st -2nd is difficult. Sometimes I double clutch when cold, that helps with the syncros. When warmed up...no problems with it here...

My daily driving on this car is very smooth... Occasionally it jerks when I release too quick or something but I don't really focus too hard. I find the G very easy to drive the manual. I've been driving stick since age 16.

I didn't notice a problem till you guys brought it up (thanks guys). I had a Subaru STI before my G and it was WAY worse.

My previous Subaru WRX was more difficult, and our Volvo S60R is WAY more of a pain than my 6MT (only a week old though). I actually found it to be fairly easy to shift smoothly. Even better is how easy it is to heel and toe compared to the other cars I've driven. Thank you dual-mass flywheel!

Practice makes better. If that doesn't help, just scream 'OH MY GOD' before shifting. The passenger won't notice the jerking if they are freaking out. Just a thought.
