People have been using the stillen and Z tube together a lot on the Coupes. My question is why not just get a Nismo intake for the same price or less? do you actually gain more power by doing the Z tube and stillen together as opposed to just getting a nismo or injen? I tried searching but didnt find exactly what i was looking for. Thanks.

well for me, i would just get the injen cai but, i didnt want to spend all that money on an intake at the time, now i got the Z tube for 80 bucks. now i have some extra money so instead of throwing out the Z tube, ill add the stillen box to it so they can complete each other. so if i didnt already have the Z tube i would of get a cai.

Some people like that stealth look of the stillen and Z intake tube. If you don't know any better, you think that is stock. In california, if you get stop by a cop. That is a good thing if he ask you to pop up the hood and start looking for excuse to give you ticket. Where as the Nismo and Injen will probally give you a higher chance to get a citation.

If you have CARB legal certifications for the intake then HE CANNOT give you a citation. As a matter of fact, for anything that you have (turbo, exhaust, headers, etc..) that is CARB certified, he cannot write you up a ticket. HOWEVER, if the object creates too much noise (I believe above 95 dBa (decibels) here in California then he indeed can cite you.

Only those traffic officers whose only duty is to hide behind a bush or what not and try and pull you over for anything they can.

so if you were in my position and have the money to spend on either a full intake or a z tube with stillen air box, then what would you do?

Also, is the nismo intake carb approved? What intakes that fit our cars are?

Also, i really hate cars that have that high-pitched buzzing sound during WOT. Hows the nismo intake in this area? Thanks a lot for the replys so far...keep em comin.

In CA, police officers cannot open your hood, or any part of your car for that matter, without your consent unless they have probable cause to believe you have committed a crime. If they see a bag of dope on your back seat for example, or have indications from a narcotics-sensing dog that drugs are present, then they can search you and your vehicle.

I would find it difficult to belive any officer could support a probable cause case from a simple intake mod. Two friends of mine are cops in the Bay Area; they don't even have the time or resources to pull people over that are clearly in violation (front tinting, excessive noise). There are plenty of serious violaters that are endangering other's safety to go get.

Shaam, to answer your question, I researched the available products and their benefits for the last month or so, and decided to go with the Nismo intake. Best of the Injen (performance) without the risk (built in water bypass valve), for less money than the Stillen + Z tube.

It's for the 350Z (same as the other one) but reports say it fits the G just fine.

G35MT: yes, you could have denied when he asked you to open the hood, unless, as I said, he had probable cause to believe you were in violation of some law that inspecting your engine bay would reveal. However, that is a slippery slope. Law enforcement officers have a lot of flexibility when writing citations and can make your life difficult if you do the same to theirs. I have found being honest, polite, and respectful to generally be the best course of action.
