G35c Annoyances
Re: G35c Annoyances
"When the guys at infiiti were coming up with the look for the back seat, someone didn't accidentally add in a hard plastic center seat. A group of engineers and designers decided to put in that hard plastic thing, and I am just trying to figure out if there is a reason for it that I am not seeing. Why not just leave it leather like the other seats, or make it an arm rest?"
The answer is simple but let me ask you something. Have you tried sitting in the back seat of a coupe? I'm 5' 7" and my head is already hitting the back windshield. Putting another seat in the middle will not make any sense because of this reason. They cannot lower the center part of the backseat because the propeler shaft runs in the middle. Sacrifice you have to pay for any rear wheel drive car. An arm rest can work but then the backrest wont be reclined. They can incorporate the armrest on the backrest where you can pull it down but they chose not to. I like the way the backseat is designed Inifinti made it look like bucket seats. It's not like I'm going to sit there I just like the way it looks. Anyway, that's my 2 cents on that.

Re: G35c Annoyances
1. Good point about the spoiler. Maybe that is exactly why it is hard to open. I have no idea how much it weighs, but that would be a plausable explanation.
2. I guess we just have different thoughts as to what we would like out of our controls. How often do you want to switch CDs? For me, I would rather just hit the 1-6 button when switching CDs. I have a few classical CDs in my changer. Some have 30 minute tracks. It would be nice to FF or RW on the steering wheel.
I think every device I have uses "press" for Next Track, and "hold" for FF/RW. My old car's sterio, my MP3 player, my wifes MP3 player, my DVD player etc.
3. I agree that the digital readout looks really bad, as far as LCDs go, but if you already have all those things up there, why not put a clock?
4. I will have to experiment a little more to see if I can figure out any rhyme or reason for how it opperates. On a traditional compass that you speak of, the moving part is the arrow. But, on a "traditional car compass" the moving part is the dial with the NSEW written on it. This is how I would expect the compass in the G to work. You would look up, and whatever was in the middle of the compass, under the needle, is what direction you were traveling.
5. I have never heard AM stations buzz in any other car I have owned. The sound quality isn't as good, of course, but I am talking about a serious buzz at every inflection in the persons voice. I turn the volumn WAY down to help avoid this as much as possible.
6. Using the ashtray is a good idea. I might try to install come spring loaded change holders in there. That would rock.
7. The car doesn't NEED exit assist. It doesn't NEED about 90% of the things we buy a G for either. But why does the sedan get it and we dont?
11. OMG. Ok I have to talk to you about this more. This is the EXACT reason that I was bitching about the lack of room in the middle console. I was hoping to install a computer in that area, so it would be totally hidden, and I wouldn't have to worry about the remote power on/off issue so much because I could just pop the compartment open and hit the power button or whatever.
Are you building a PC for this, or are you buying one of the models out there?
Are you wiring it into your audio system?
Are you wiring it into the nav screen?
What OS are you planning on using?
I have been thinking that it might be slick if I could run TabletPC software on there so that I would have the popup keyboard feature, and then I could mount a touchpad somewhere on the middle console to navigate around the screen.
Can you tell me more about your setup/plans?
My bitching about the CD changer will go away 100% when I get my 20 GB of MP3s on there.
12. Yes, I didn't even think about it being on the opposite side... I agree the look is better than a 4-button look, but I think they could have done better, for example they could have made it so that the joystick moved in only 8 directions. When you zoom around on a map, can you move in a full 360 degrees, or are you limited to 8 directions? I have to test that.
Lemme know about the carpc!

Re: G35c Annoyances
Why don't I take your advice 1 step further and just never drive the car ever. That will solve all my problems right?
1. I don't have to. I have a weight set in my house and have been lifting since I was 14. Wanna bet I can lift more than you?
2. Of course! Anyone that wants to FF or RW must have a medical condition. And BTW, it's called ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).
4. How do you shut it off? That might actually be worth doing.
5. Ok... I'll just call all the local talk/sports radio stations and tell them that they should switch to FM because my crappy speakers buzz when I listen to them on AM.
6. I live in a state with toll roads. Unless I give the tollbooth worker a 60 cent tip, it is impossible for me to avoid having change in the car.
7. "We have exit assist." We do? Are you talking about for the rear passengers? With the sedan the seat scoots back when you open the door, and moves back into position when you close the door. We don't have this.
8. I will have to retest this to make sure. But several times I have taken a turn going slow. Maybe 15mph tops. As I was going into the turn I shifted to MM and tapped down a bunch, maybe 6 times, just to make sure that I was going to get down to 1, but when I hit the gas I am in 2 or 3. Maybe my car has a prob.
10. My wife is smart enough to have what she needs at home. What would you put in the back? If it were up to you and you could pick a) arm rest, b) nothing, or c) a hard plastic thing, would you really pick c?
12 The nav system is truly a great feature. It has some flaws in it's design for sure, but it has already show itself to be worth it's weight in gold. I was sitting in GRIDLOCK traffic on some road where there was a big accident a few miles ahead. I popped up the nav system and saw that I could zip through a few subdivisions and get out on another road that would eventually merge into the road I was on, after the accident. I must have saved myself a hour of sitting there.

Yeh the trunk is a pain.
The clock is Infiniti's signature trait, next to useless but pretty.lol.
My biggest gripe is rear visibility. Coupe is awful compared to Sedan.
Front overhang and clearance takes some getting used to.
Oh yeah, the wheels protect the tires instead of vise versa. If your judgement is lousy this can quickly get very ugly and very expensive.
Love the car tho. So many more +'s than -'s.

Oh, yeah, for the way some classical CDs break up tracks, I can see where that would be desirable. The few classical CDs I've had in the car have lots of track breaks. I fwip around between CDs fairly often, 2 songs here, 3 songs there, etc. I should probably just copy them to a mix CD, but I have a sloooooow burner.
Re: CarPC...
Audio/Video- I'm going to patch it in through the NAV/TV converter you see discussed on the audio forum quite a bit. Video and audio are thus taken care of.
Unit- there are actually several PCs out there that fit that center compartment perfectly. My old Toshiba Libretto fits it like it was meant to be there, but unfortunately it's too outdated and quirky to run DVDs smoothly, which is one of my big demands for my system. There are also a couple pre-built units at cappuccinopc.com that fit that space. It's actually the width of the compartment that's the tightest fit, not the depth. If any of those units appeal to you, keep in mind that alot of them are set up with ports on both sides, which requires at least another inch of space. I personally decided against this because the units are a little on the expensive side for what you get, and I'm concerned about all the heat that's likely to build up in that small space. Plus I didn't want to hear the fan whir or hard drive grinding.
So the course I'm going to take is to have a trunk-mounted desktop that's easily removed so it can also be my home desktop, allowing me to concentrate my money on one PC. Since the only thing I really wanted the computer in the armest for was so that I could easily swap DVDs, I'm going to accomplish that same feat by putting an external DVD unit in there, which will fit much more easily and won't have the heat problems. Had I known of its existence at the time, I might have tried to find an external DVD player that fits the double din center console that the aftermarket stereo guys covet, but my setup will still look completely stock due to being well-hidden, for less cash.
I have alot of other plans, but I haven't figured out how to do them yet and don't want to get caught talking out of my backside. My ambitions exceed my computer skill, unfortunately, but I'm slowly making progress. Anyway, I feel pretty confident that a trunk-mounted PC is the way to go and that trying to stuff one in the center compartment is a waste of effort.

Re: G35c Annoyances
The only complaint I have, is hearing the passenger seatbelt banging against the inside of the car, having real shitty traction w/the all season tires, and the headlights not being so bright. Other than that, I have had NO problems w/the drivers side seatbelt (does not dig into my neck or anything, maybe those who complain have a defective one?), and I'm a happy camper. I really didn't pick the car apart for every little thing, and if I was going to do that, I'd be buying the car, not leasing it. It's gone in 3 years, what do I care.
Re: G35c Annoyances
Normally I wouldn't post this, and this is not directed to you Serum, I just hit reply at the last message.......................
I researched a few cars I thought I would like to own, I checked out all the specs, I read every review I could find, and then I actually sat in, checked the controls of, and then drove every car I was interested in.
Buying a car is about compromises, I don't think I would be able to afford a car that is "perfect" for me, because there just isn't any such thing unless I was the chief designer for some auto manufacturer.
Anyway, I figured everyone goes about buying a car in this manner.
After reading alot of posts that complain about the shortcomings of the car I realized that most of the complaints come from people that must've bought this car before really checking it out.
Some of you guys would be dissatisfied with stuff even if you were the chief designer, lol.
I only have 6000 miles on my G but it has already brought me much joy and satisfaction.
Is the car perfect? No.
Is it a damn good value for what I paid? Absolutely.
I still believe the car is way better than a Corvette, which costs at least $10k more, and I have have two young boys that won't go in Mommy's car anymore.
My Porsche owning Dad still can't get over the value of our great car.
Some of you guys need to check yourselves.

"... and the headlights not being so bright"
You must not have the Xeon lights, because my are amazing. I have had 3 people so far flash their brights at me because they though I had MINE on. I bet they are suprised when I flash my brights back at them and they realize that were looking at my normal lights!
You can also turn on your fog lights if you have those (not sure if they are standard).

Re: G35c Annoyances
So were you going to actually open up the middle compartment (next to driver) to install the PC in there? You weren't going to fit it into the storage area under the armrest right? (but rather UNDER the storage area that is UNDER the armrest correct?)
I spent a lot of time looking around for products/info. Here are some of the links I saved incase you want to check it out:
http://www.mobilevideo4less.com/mobile-pc.html
http://logisysus.com/catalog/default...581ba2e18983ed
http://www.simplifiedinnovation.com/PC%20Products.htm
My main concerns are 1) remotely starting / shutting off the machine and 2) damage from atypcal usage.
If you had a desktop system, setting up some kind of Wake-On-Event might not be so tough, but it might be very hard with a laptop. I havn't looked into it enough to say for sure.
Some of the machines I linked to above are really very small.
The main reason I was considering using a laptop was because a laptop was meant to do this job. What I mean, is when someone designs a laptop, they have to take into consideration that it is going to get bumbed around somewhat. The hard drives are going to take some shock better than a normal HDD in a desktop machine. They are also designed to be quiet and not super hot. My desktop machine is very loud, and puts out a ton of heat. Also, laptops are all small, so you arn't going to pay more for that. They have batteries and can automatically shut down gracefully when those get low. If you just pull the power on a desktop it is very bad for the OS.
Have you researched the remote start/shutdown any?
If you are considering buying a desktop that you will remove to use at home, maybe you should consider a "desktop replacement" laptop? You could get a docking station for your house so you would just bring in the laptop and drop it into the docking station and it would become automatically connected to your keyboard/monitor/mouse/printer/network etc.
Have you found any good resources / websites dealing with car pc topics?

Damnit, this forum must hate me. Can't edit from certain places on this network. Anyway, I checked and the xenons don't seem to be part of the premium package, they are standard on all leather coupe models. So yeah, I know I have it.
