Installed US spec PA11-NIS...now wtf?
So I had a tech at the infiniti dealer install it for me. Now, when I press Sat button nothing happens(never had Sat anyway, just thought the ipod would be running off of that).
Then I press 'mode' on the steering wheel and it references some sort of CD changer. Then I realize the music on my Ipod is playing.
Now, this was done on a 2004 6mt Coupe.
When I plug mine in the iPod reads "nissan"and "Ok to disconect." And the only way to switch songs is with the stereo controls, iPod controls are disabled. ??????
For some reason I assumed when the Ipod was plugged in via the PA11 that I would be able to see what was playing VIA THE IPOD.
Was that just a wrong assumption?
This is a brand new 80GB Video I-pod.
Now I realize that I can't see dick about what is playing on the ipod unless I unplug it from the PA11(easy since the cord hangs out).
Is that right?

not sure, but if remember correclty, there are two ways to hook up your ipod. One way is to see songs on your ipod and use controls on your wheel to +/- volume n skip songs, another way (which looks like you did) is hook up ipod and just use your headunit controls...w/out being able to see whats on ipod

Basically you can't see any song info on the head unit(which is what I expected). But in addition to that, the screen of the Ipod simply says, "Nissan" in small letters and below that says, "OK to disconnect"
Kinda crappy if you ask me that you can't ever see what is playing. My question is if this is normal, and if not, how to fix.
You have to flip the switch on the PA11-NIS to change modes from playlist mode.
Also, it's normal that it operated off the CD-Changer mode, not the Sat.
Looks like you are going to have to take apart your dash to get what you want.
Honestly, why didn't you read the manual to determine which mode you wanted before installing it?

I have the PA11-NIS2 and i have mine to where i can read off my ipod but can control the volume and thats it. There are two different versions of it and i think you misread that you can read off the control unit..Mine runs through the satellite button leaving me with my cd-changer still functional. I havent had any issues with mine and i installed it myself within an hour..

Ok, these two previous posts are contradictory. One says it runs off the Sat button, one claims otherwise. Which is it?
Now, I just grabbed the damn manual and madchef is correct about there being 2 modes that are determined by a switch on the module. CRAP.
I made the mistake of assuming there was one setting and I just handed the unit to the tech to install. I think I will just deal with it as is until I have time to bring it back for him to pull the dash.
Not sure why anyone would want the 'playlist' mode considering the limitations. The 'direct' mode gives you the most flexibility and ease of use. Arrrg.
My fault for not reading the manual.
Especially annoying because we actually switched that button to both positions and it didn't change anything. But now that I read the fine print of the manual it says you must disconnect the Ipod from the unit before making the switch. Amazing how that small detail of disconnecting the I-pod would have made all of the difference.
Still though, why the discrepency between the Sat button vs. not using the Sat button?

You have to hit the CD button a second time to get it to think it's a CD Changer. I was confused about it for a while too, but hit the CD button then hit the CD button a second time. Make sure you look at your IPOD because sometimes when it comes on it is on PAUSE, so just hit the play button on your IPOD and you will be set. It may take a few seconds to turn on and a few tries to get used to everything.
