I am saying it is good for bad drivers because it will prevent them from running into your car or my car.

Less bumping into cars = good

I agree. I don't know the how the system functions, but the commercials for this car show it parallel parking, and the car in this vid clearly was trying to parallel park. Maybe those guys forgot to switch parking modes (is there a button the didn't hit to have it park regularly and not parallel)?

So we can say here that it is just stupid writers and not just a faulty system? I would say a combination, but whatever, it's a stupid lexus.

When use the system it shows lines that it determines where you want the car. If nothing is in the way of those lines you tell the system to go for it.

So if you select the WRONG mode despite the car giving you a verbal confirmation of the mode selected, then sorry for ya.

Something tells me that 99% of the people who make enough money to afford this car didn't earn the money by being a moron. The system is about as user friendly as it gets.

This would be perfect for a woman I saw on YouTube, trying to get out of a parking lot. The security camera shows her literally going back and forth about 20 times, trying get out of spot any ordinary driver should have been able to do in one shot. She actually clobbers 2 other cars before she's able to get out. Worst bit of driving I've ever seen and if this piece of Lexus technology is meant to help a driver like her, then we're all in big trouble.

I found it. Check it out:

from what ive seen, it takes the measurements as you drive beside it then makes a grid, you position the grid where you want it and it will turn green when it is in a good location, otherwise it is red and will not allow it. if im wrong, sorry, but then again i dont own this car. but anyway, it still allows for bumping of other cars when it shouldnt whether you say it does or not. do you work for lexus or something to be defending this so much? i like lexus to, but this feature isnt needed.

I think the many Youtube videos of this system working properly is several situations is much more convincing evidence than the words of a couple CNN auto staffers who probably spent 10 minutes with the system.

Some of the auto dribble you read from these news outlets can be rather absurd, which I think is something everyone can agree on. They write articles about 'street racing' if you accidentally slip the tires in the rain going 2mph. Their scope is typically out of whack, so you really have to take their opinions with a grain of salt.
I think your the only one missing the entire point. The system DOES in fact work for parking backwards in a space and parallel parking. There is no disputing that. But, the technology means nothing if the end user(everyone) can not EASILY use it. Every review I have read acknowledges this technology is time consuming and/or not easy to learn. They also point out that it must be a LARGE parking space in order for it work. Which defeats the purpose in my opinion. Read 3rd paragraph of http://research.cars.com/go/crp/rese...=&aff=national

You trust Youtube over CNN auto reviewers for factual information. enuff said LOL. I guess if someone shot viral video of a fake Tsunami coming to the United States on Youtube you would start running.

Don't get me wrong I was not trying to intentionally bash Lexus by starting this thread. If this technology was in an Infiniti I would say the same thing.
It is not practical for everday use in this quick-pace, on demand world.

If something is in the way then the box won't turn green. If it is green then all is gravy and nothing will be hit that is outside of those green lines. That is why it is green, lol. It won't go outside of those lines and if you as a driver can't see that those lines are not good enough then you have a vision problem.

No I do not work for Lexus.

You concede that there are poor parkers/drivers on the road, no?

If you make that concession, then you MUST think it a good thing that those people can be offered a system that will allow them to park without messing up other people's cars. Arguing anything else doesn't make sense.

Sure, this parking system isn't a 'necessity' per se, but it can prevent people's cars from being damaged unnecessarily.

Laughable. I trust the myriad video documentation showing actual footage of the sytem being used properly in several instances and how it does indeed work as advertised.

Remember the saying "a picture is worth a thousand words?"

Several videos are worth even more.

A video of a tsunami coming to America is not comparable here because that, my friend, would have to be faked. I highly doubt that ANYONE is faking the videos they are making of the parking system working correctly when used correctly. That would be pure nonsense.

As if EVERY parking situation must be accomplished in the quickest amount of time possible. I see people do horrible parallel parking jobs in the biggest of spaces without ANYONE in traffic coming up behind them in a hurry. Even if you could only use it 1 out of every 10 situations you are presented with, that means that 1 out of 10 times an elderly individual who can't park very well might not hit your car and cause hundreds of dollars worth of damage when they would without the system.

Somehow that point is lost on you.

This debate is over as far as I am concerned.

thanks for telling me how i should think, but i dont think it is a good thing that this system is offered to people who are bad at parking. and if a picture is worth a thousand words, then both negative(not the you tube joke ones) and positive instances of this system in use shown on tv and video should be evidence enough for either case, but i guess thats why were opposing your praise of this feature in the first place. i guess youre one of those guys who has to be right all the time.

man stfu up already. we get it that you don't like this technology. who the F cares? its not like its mandatory and u have to use it... its a freaking option that you have to manually set up to get it to park itself... you really don't, and Lexus isn't pointing a gun in your head to make you use the option.

get over it already man.

why do you care soo much about other people who might use it? if you dont want to use it, then its on you. no need to cry about it.
