jack

do what hero said, roll it up on 2x4's from home depot. Go to the scrap section they are usually free small pieces of wood. Duct taqpe 2 together and then put the jack underneath.

$80 - $200. I'd say $125 and up for a good one.

according to bythabay, the regular jack stands with the V shaped supports will pinch into the sideskirts and damage the rail? Anyone have any suggestions for jack stands that don't damage the car?

You don't put jack stands near the body of the car. They should always be placed under the frame of the car or at the axles or some other solid part of the car. I always jack the car up by placing the jack just behind the front tire and about 15" in toward the centre of the car. That is where the frame is. If I'm jacking up the rear of the car I use the differential or the lower spring socket.

Hope that helps!

Please look at the following picture obtained directly from the FSM:

Note that locations A & B are meant to initially raise the car and all other locations are mean to have jack stands placed at them to support the car (lower the car onto the jack stands).

Also, for those of you who have cars that are too low to lift properly (the floor jack won't fit there), get another floor jack and lift using one of the four available support points, then slip in the other jack at point A and keep lifting, that way you'll still be able to place all the jack stands where they belong (assuming you'll still have access to the differential from the back). This is just an alternative to driving up initially on ramps or wood.

Not really (as long as the parking brake is secured properly...). If you want to be extra careful you could use wheel blocks but I've never had a problem...

These are the exact same ones I've been using:

Craftsman 2-1/4 ton Jack Stands, 2 pk.
Sears item #00950182000 Mfr. model #50182

They're listed at $14.99 right now (+ shipping) though you can just walk in to any sears and buy them..

This is how they will look supporting your G:

Notice that if the top of the jack stand was any more curved than it already is, it would cause serious problems...

I think costco also has some falt jack stands (even flatter than these) so I would recommend you check those out first (they looked nicer anyways).

uhm.. is 2-1/4 ton enough to hold the car up?

http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...seBVCookie=Yes

would this combo work well with the G? or will the floor jack not be able to lift the car?

That's funny, then why when ever you go to have service done to your vehicle at a garage, even Infiniti service, do they place the hoist supports at four corners on the frame not at the points that the FSM are recommending. I would only use those points if I were using the supplied jack that comes with the car and only if I were raising one corner of the car at a time, not the whole car. It only makes sense to support the car by the strongest peice in the vehicle "the frame".
