Problems opening the gas lid door

Has anyone ever have a problem with their gas tank lid not being able to open? I went to go put gas on my 03 Coupe and wasnt able to open to lid to pump gas!!! It seemed locked for some reason. This isn'tthe first time either. Anyone else with this problem or a way to fix it?? Thanks in advance.

I didn't have that problem, but if you can't open the gas tank lid you can remove the trunk trim panel and access the back side of the release mechanism. it's a white plastic rod. simply pull it out and the door should open. It might be sticky, it's an actuator. you can try lubing it with some lithium grease or something to make it move freely.

When diagnosing a problem, start by checking the obvious: Did you hit the unlock button for the doors? Our gas lids unlock when you unlock your doors.

Edit: You can also use the remote to unlock. It's the same thing.

This has come up before. There was a fairly detailed DIY a long time ago. I thought I had a link to it, but I can't find it.

There is this short DIY over in the FAQ & DIY section.

WTF.. 05 dont get a lock, we just press on it to make it pop out. Why would they do away with a safety feature like that?

Lock your car and try to open your gas lid. It won't open.

This happened to me last week: My doors auto lock after a few seconds the car is running (http://www.kptechnologies.com/) but when I got to the station I just manually unlocked the drivers door, tried to pump gas but couldn't open the filler door; I stood there for a moment thinking WTF?... Went back to my door and unlocked using the switch which then unlocked my filler door.

There are so many standard features that BMW's and Benz's have that we have to go aftermarket from KP Tech. Great...

250? two hundred and fifty? 2....5....0????

god that infuriates me and it's not even my car/dealer. It's a 5 mins procedure. And the part cant possibly be more than $60. I would be surprised if dealer cost was more than $40.

Just curious, what dealership do these highway robbers reside?
