What really voids the warrenty?

Now i know that the dealership has no idea on what performance parts really void he warrenty. Now my question is what items could void the warrenty.? And if you do change a part what would keep the dealership off of your a$$.?
Now with my Honda Accord the dealership never said what would void my warrenty. I had an intake and exhaust with nothing said to me about the warrenty being voided. Even when i took it in for a service. So are some people just not knowing or just ignorent to what the parts really do to your vehicle.?

Technially nothing voids your warrenty until it is proven to have caused whatever problem you are having. A dealership just can't come out and say that you voided the warrenty they have to physically prove that your aftermarket part is the reason for your problems. Then it is void but just for that one problem.

Yeah, but the staff at the dealerships are automotive professionals and most of are not so often they can say what they want and even if it's bs we don't have the actual knowlege to refute what they say....

If that happens then they are breaking the law. There is a law in place that they have to prove it and be able to show you that's what caused it, otherwise you can take them to court.

Re: What really voids the warrenty?

Legally, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty on a vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure in the vehicle (per the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)) .

You may want to onsider working with performance-oriented dealerships with a proven history of working with customers. If your vehicle manufacturer fails to honor emission/warranty claims, contact the EPA at (202) 260-2080 or www.epa.gov. If federal warranty protection is denied, contact the FTC at (202) 326-3128 or www.ftc.gov.

I guess if you have a trusted family mechanic he can help you assess the validity of what the dealer tells you.
