Yes you can so can you explain again what you mean. If you put your car in Manumatic mode and accel. it will redline unless you shift the car up yourself, mine will only shift down automatically in this mode.

with automanual, you are not only can reach the redline, but also over the redline and blow up your engine.

its not possible to blow your engine even in manumatic mode because when you redline it cuts the throttle causing you to slow down

^ it still has a limiter there with the fuel cut off. unless you hold it in the redline for a few min you shouldnt have any problems.

I thought the tiptronic mode will auto shift up for you when it reaches the redline....

i woudln't know becuase i haven't ever used a G sport shift before but from my understanding the computer will shift up or down for you automatically if it realizes that you are at too low of an RPM or too high of an RPM

In my 04.5 in triptronic mode it will only shift down, this may change from year to year.

I have an 06 5AT and it will NOT upshift on its own, even if you mash the redline. It will however downshift when you are braking. I love it!

my 05 wont shift up or down for you when in manumatic... unless you come to a stop, then it goes back into first automatically. You can hit and bounce off the redline when it hits the limiter no problem - go out and try it if you dont believe me.

That would kind of make the "manual" mode useless don't you think? Manual mode will shift down for you, but not up and if you are redlining it, the shift is a little slow. (Don't ask me how I know.)
