Auto Manual Shifting

My friend's G35 Sedan is AT and whenever it moves to step-tronic, it always goes to 4th gear.

However, I have driven CL-type S and Hyundai loaner car.. both of these cars starts at the gear propotional to the speed.. But how come G35 starts at 4th gear always? And even when the speed goes down, it never reduces?

Is it the same for G35C? I really don't think it makes sense when ur gear doesn't down shift when your speed decreases?

Re: Auto Manual Shifting

The sedan has a top gear select. In the coupe you actually select the gear you want to be in, you can double down shift as well.

Re: Auto Manual Shifting

The coupe AT works as you would expect - you can select the gear you want, you must upshift it, if you move from drive to MM it will be in what ever gear it was already in (not 4 as in the sedan). The only thing done automatically in MM is it will automatically return to 1st once you come to a complete stop.
The sedan for some reason works differently - it is a top gear selector. It will up shift automatically to what ever gear is selected. I assume you can downshift it, but if it goes to 4 everytime you move to MM, I'm not sure how it would work if you were in 3 (in drive) and wanted to go to 2?? Would it go to 4 first??
I'm glad I have a coupe!

Re: Auto Manual Shifting

Thanks for the reply folks....

I really think Infiniti is in a way screwing it up their images... I mean, top gear selector to me does not really make sense at all... My friend has a sedan and he never really uses MM cuz of that stupid design.

From what I heard, Infiniti had their Sedan out first and test the market, and then they change this change that and try to improve whatever is necessary for the later models.

It happens to all car make, but according to my friend's, its pretty extreme on G35 Sedan case.. The first debut did not have sports springs, and this and that, and even the car charger was not at where it was supposed to be.

Well just my 2cent... I still love the G =)

Re: Auto Manual Shifting

If I recall correctly the Z was around about the same time the G sedan was. The Z,Gs and Gc have exactly same AT tranny. But only the Z and Gc have the gear select. Seems that NIssan/Infiniti did the top gear select for the sedan for some strange reason(luxury maybe, but doesnt make any sense for me) as the Z gear select AT tranny was allready available.
