shift knob removal
I never used a screwdriver, I suppose you can but heres the easy way to do it..
get your 2 fingers on inside the boot and pull towards yourself until you hear the clips release then simply pull up and its off

does anyone know what the actual affect would be if you did in fact damage your transmission
like will it make a certain noise, do a certain thing
Here is the similiar procedure which I followed when I changed my shifter ****, last year. I went to an Infiniti site. However, the following link affords the same results and warnings.

I have an 06 coupe and hands down that was the hardest thing I've ever done on a car. The locktite was soo damn tite i swore i was going to do damage to the tranny. I ended up having to grab someone else to hold onto the shifter under the boot with a vice grip while i wrestled with the ****. Took a good 15 mins of fighting before it finally twisted off. But in the end it was definately worth it.
