WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM
WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM
Aiite, my fellowship G group. I have a proposal to make, instead of reading several long units of United States history.
I'm pretty much sick of hearing that our G coupes weigh too damn much, and I'm sure that you all feel the same way. Now there HAS to be some way for us to cut back the pounds and give ourselves a better advantage in the weight department. There has been several ways of reducing weights already on forums, most obvious being like forged wheels.
However, that is the only part in which I would like to leave stock. Anything else and everything else can be modded. So let's start thinking about ways we COULD reduce the weight in our heavy G's. Just an idea that occurred to me.

Just lose the spare tire...
Although I would rather just increase the power to weight ratio of the vehicle by just adding more power.

Re: WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM
Dragon, as you stated to achieve the weight loss that would be considerable enough to increase performance noticeably you would have to remove or change many components that make the G in my opinion more refined than persay a 350z or a WRX STI. It is after all considered a luxury coupe so it's gonna have some extra padding. I am of the same opinion as above which is to add more HP but by using performace not at the cost of that luxury "padding". If you still want some pointers though here is what I know, and remember it depends on how extreme you want to go.
1. As above, lose the spare tire, jack, tools, etc.
2. Though we alread have a lighter Aluminum hood, Carbon fiber hoods are still yet lighter.
3. Replace other metal panels with Carbon fiber ones, rear trunk, etc.
4. Lighter composite wheels definately help
5. A lighter titanium exhaust system, VERY EXPENSIVE though.
6. Replace the Front seats with lighter composite racing buckets.
7. Remove the rear seat.
8. Remove extra plastic interior panels
9. Remove the stereo components. From what I understand the standard WRX STI doesn't have a stereo either.
10. Replace the radiator with a lighter model as well as the battery.
This can go on but then basically your daily driver with some punch is now a loud unconfortable track car. But if that's your goal then I say screw it and just rip the whole car apart down to the frame only put back what you need and then slap a fiberglass race body on it. Am I getting out of hand, he he. Guess so, Good Luck.

Re: WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM
I would say the biggest thing causing our weight would be our steel frame chassis if i am correct. All i can say is stupid chassis sharing with fx models have screwed us over. Imagine if our G was 200 pounds lighter stock...oh man.

Re: WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM
Have you considered the supermodel diet?
1 Part Bulemia, 2 Parts Cocaine? From 0 to Waif in 4 seconds flat!
Seriously though... for some real weight reduction on the G, has anyone considered shipping the car to the moon? I hear the gravity is substantially less there.

Re: WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM
I'd actually be interested to know if it's possible to remove the fold down part of the rear seats? or maybe the rear seats entirely without too much trouble?
I suppose you'd need to get some extra carpet to cover up the gaps?

Re: WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM
This will sound like a smartass reply, but: Go to a Nissan dealer and trade your G in for a 350Z, then buy a custom bodykit to make it look like a G. You'd have to spend more money and trash up your G quite a bit in order to accomplish the same weight savings through modifications. And you don't even want to change the wheels, so looks are obviously important to you. No driving around with the three other seats and dash ripped out. As for the other mods, you can do most of them on the Z too and make it even lighter. Basically, if you want a track car, the Z makes a hell of a lot more sense, since you're getting the same engine, platform, and transmission anyway.

Re: WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM
if all you G owners wanted was a faster car...you pretty much chose the wrong car. if you wanted a challenge, yeah, ok. good luck on all this racing [censored]. =]
