G35c sucks in snow

Re: G35c sucks in snow
Serum, who said anything about taking the G out in snow? It sits comfortably in the garage, waiting for a dry, sunny day . I just go in the garage, and give it a good night kiss. And this is after almost 9 months of owners. I can't get enough of this car .
Coming back to the topic... For those that do have to take it out in snow, get a good set of winter tires. I believe you can get them for both the 17s and the 18s.
G35 Coupe. Diamond Graphite, Graphite, Premium and wheel and Tire package. Zaino Baby.

Re: G35c sucks in snow
I have LM-22s on OEM 18's. They handled fine in 8" of unplowed snow. Was I able to drive as if there was nothing on the ground? Of course not. They handled fine in the sense I could stay with the flow of traffic and not get stuck. For those of you that chose to drive in the snow with the summer tires, please let me know which roads you drive on, so I can avoid them.

Re: G35c sucks in snow
Hey folks,
Original poster here, I'm surprised that some people get so defensive (I guess that's what the passion for this car can cause as a side effect).
I'd like to repeat myself, since some folks did not understand what I was saying about this car in the winter. I'm not gunning the car in the winter. I can't even get up my driveway folks, forget about driving. And when I speak of driving, I mean taking off from a stop sign or street light, at like 1 MPH, baby steps here. I here clicking and beeping and all kinds of electronics going off, gas being cut off, brakes being applied, my dashboard lights up like a Xmas tree, from stand still, I mean it's like the car has a mind of it's own.
So, again, I'm not talking about driving fast at all, I'm talking about traction, on BRAND NEW Pirelli Winter 210's worth $1300 CDN. Don't get me wrong, if I bought this car, it's cause I like it, all I'm saying is that I'm a little disappointed with the traction of this car, especially with the fact that it has 3 different technologies to help with traction (LS, TC, VDC).
I do agree with most of you, if you are careful, and drive the car slowly under normal winter conditions, this car should perform wonderfully, key words being normal winter conditions, which we do not have here in Canada. Most of the 40-60cm of snow we got here (Montreal) has melted off of the roads and now I'm enjoying the car again. I agree also with most of you, I should have bought a winter beater, but with monthly payments as high as my mortgage, I'd like to enjoy that money a little, not have it sit in a garage again. I had a summer weekend only showcar (300ZX SMZ), and I was tired of seeing it sit in the garage, that's why I got the G...
Thanks for all of your great feedback and input. One thing I have learned from most of you is that 18" shoes is not the way to go for winter, most of you that do have good traction have the 17's on there, so that is what I will do next year, pick up some stock 17's and slap some good winters on there (or pick up an FX) :-)
Nice chatting with you guys!!

Re: G35c sucks in snow
I almost went for the $1350 tirerack 17" rims with Bizzaks special, but I found a beater with a heater pick-up for $900, spent another $150 on some brakes and an air filter, cleaned the filthy interior. Now I just look at the weather report and pick the appropriate vehicle.
Man I feel like a multi-millionaire having to choose a vehicle by the weather forcast, even thou I'm just a multi thousandaire. lol

Re: G35c sucks in snow
Gotta add my 2 cents...
Only had my G since Thanksgiving.
Just had our first snow in Indiana. Only 2 inches but I just had to find out how it would handle. I was EXTREMELY pleased with the GoodYear all weather 17s. I got on it fairly hard and the slip kicked in but only slowed me down a bit, so I let off on the gas. Using moderate preasure on the gas the slip light never came on again. Felt solid and stable at 40mph. I even had trouble getting the anti-locks to engage. Granted I ain't pushin' through a foot of snow but these tires grabbed pretty darn good. My winter beater is a front wheel drive Mazda and it was actually worse than the G. I wanted to race my wife with the Mazda against the G but she wouldn't go for it. Women! No fun!

Re: G35c sucks in snow
Yes, I'm sorry for the nasty reply. I tend to answer dumb questions with dumb answers. As most have said, a little common sense goes a long way while driving in the snow and the G is quite capable. That's just my opinion since I've been driving around NJ in the snow, back and forth to work and such.
