NAV-Disc Error. Anyone else?
NAV-Disc Error. Anyone else?
Has anyone else ever gotten/fixed this problem? I just got it today and have only had my car a week and a half. First, after I hit the "I Agree" key, the NAV system said "Please wait" and then froze. Later, I tried again and it just said Disc Error. I did the sysem diagnostic thing and all it says is that my central unit is abnormal. DUH! Anyways, I'm hoping to fix it rather than take it to the dealer. The dealers here in San Diego don't exactly have the best reputation in customer service.
Re: NAV-Disc Error. Anyone else?
The same thing happend to me twice. The first time I took it to the dealership. They said they "reset" the system and it worked again. The second time happened last week. A few days later, it was working normally again. I'm taking it back to the dealership Monday. I'll post what they say, I'll probably ask for a new system.
Re: NAV-Disc Error. Anyone else?
thanks for the info! let me know what they say. i might have to take mine in on monday too. i'm disappointed cuz i was hoping to have some fun with it this weekend. and if i have to get a new system then that means i gotta wait even longer. oh! which dealer did you go to?
Re: NAV-Disc Error. Anyone else?
I finally tried to go to the dealer to get my NAV system fixed but the technician I spoke with said I had an old disc and that I had to buy a new one in order for it to work properly. He also said that I would have to pay for the new disc out of my own pocket! That is so ridiculous. First of all, the entire NAV system is under warranty so I shouldn't have to pay anything. Second, why would NAV not work just because the disc is old? The disc that came with my car was practically brand new! Third, I already ran the self diagnostic test and it said the problem was with the central unit (not the disc). Well, I told the tech about the "abnormal central unit" message I got from the self diagnostic (which he seemed clueless about) and he said he'd have to take it out and run tests of his own. He said it would take an hour. I would've (reluctantly) let him test it but I was short on time and the dealer didn't have any loaner cars available for me like they are supposed to. Anyways, this tech seemed too incompetent anyways to be able to fix my problem so I'll just have to go to another dealership. Has anyone else had better luck?
Re: NAV-Disc Error. Anyone else?
My car does not have the NAV system but it is a bunch of BS that you would have to pay out of pocket for a new disc. I would take it to another dealer or politely press your case with the tech/manager. It should definitely be covered under factory warranty.

I took my in today and service writer said he honestly didn't know much about the system. There was a scratch on my disc so he's going to get me a new one. Hopefully that will fix the problem.
How do you do the self diagnostic? I'd like to do this the next time it flakes out on my.
thanks

Re: NAV-Disc Error. Anyone else?
To run the self-diagnostic:
-Hold down the "D/N" button and the "MAP" button at the same time for a few seconds
-A menu should pop up on your screen with three choices. Select "Self-Diagnosis" and hit the enter button
-The system will perform a check (this should take maybe a minute or two so be patient)
-Then it will show you a diagram of the components of the system with red or green dots next to it
-You can select the component that has the red dot in front of it to see a description of the problem
**If you need a better explanation of how to do this, see your Infiniti Navigation manual. I read this off of someone else's post and tried it out. I might have missed a step or something so you might wanna double-check.**
