Bumpers a different Color???

Does anyone here have a G35 Coupe and noticed that the bumpers are painted a slight shade darker than the actual body of the car? I just wanted to know if its just my car or others also. I was told this is common because the bumpers are not painted in the same place as the car is because they dont want them to get scratched or something like that. Any feedback would be great.

My understanding is that the paint reflects different because the bumpers are "plastic" vs. the body being "metal" the paint sits different on different materials. just my .02
Correct me if i'm wrong =)

It's possible the paint is slightly different, but more likely it's to do with shape, lighting, painting process for plastic as opposed to metal, things like that.
If the difference is too great, tell the dealership you want them repainted.

Re: Bumpers a different Color???

I just had the side of my car repainted -- my son was in a fender bender--and my body shop guy told me the plastic holds the color different from the metal. After market paint is supposedly better than Infiniti paint and he told me I'd be one of the few cars on the road that had a gas cap that is color matched to the body of the car. For what it is worth.

The Aftermarket paint is definitely superior to the factory paint. As to the color difference, the paint on the bumper has a flex additive to it. In addition, any paint applied to plastic has a slightly different shade than on metal.

I never noticed a difference in the shade of paint in my color but mine is black anyway.

I can't tell see the difference on my black G... Maybe I have too much wax or my color differentiation (spelling) is poor. =\

Re: Bumpers a different Color???

When I had my front bumper replaced and repainted by the dealer I initially freaked because the color was slightly mismatched, to varying degrees depending on the viewing angle and lighting. Then I walked around the lot and looked at all the new Infinitis there, in various colors, and noticed that ALL of them had bumpers that mismatched the adjacent steel body panels slightly, more so with metallic colors.

I then relaxed and drove home happy.

The Pearlized are the hardest to match. but a good shop can match if better than the factory.

Re: Bumpers a different Color???

I assume that you have the ivory pearl seems to be the worst with that - I understand why (the plastic vs metal argument) and I think they do add something to the bumpers.

But it drives me nuts, it is actually my biggest complaint about the car, I would love to shell out some money for a TT and a few other mods but I just keep thinking the paint doesnt match and I might want a different car at the end of my lease ( in 4k miles - thats about 2 months for me).

Re: Bumpers a different Color???

I actually have a silver G as you can tell by the name It was a friend of mine who pointed out the color difference. He said that you would think when you pay so much for a car they can at least match the colors!! He went on to say that its most car companies and it shows the most on the whites and the silvers.

Re: Bumpers a different Color???

my rocker panels are off a shade.

Rather it's plastic or metal it should all be the same shade. If the shop did it right they put primer and a base coat. Should of done at least around 7 coats I think?

when you get parts repainted seperately some body shops can't match 100%, but if it's a whole paint job there should be no excuses.
