Autocrossing the G
Autocrossing the G
Whats the general feedback on auto xing the G-35 coupe (specifically the 6-speed). I'm getting the car next month and would like to hear how it performs on the track. Any comments??
Re: Autocrossing the G
On the racetrack (Summit Point) the car handles great, I just pumped up the tires last time to 38 front 42 rear. Bone stock suspension.
Although I grabbed a BSP regional title 2 years ago in my 240z I have not autocrossed the G yet.
I'm working on fabricating a front strut brace though, as you can feel the flex when cornering hard.

Long time autocrosser - 72 240z ASP back then, stopped after I sold the z 10 years ago. What class is the G35 coupe in?

Re: Autocrossing the G
Do you have Brembos? I'm interested in seeing how well the Brembos hold up to very hard driving, such as heavy braking from triple-digit speeds on race tracks and repeated hard braking in mountain twisties. I intend to push my G hard when I get the chance.

I picked up the crawford front strut tower bar over the summer, I just got around to seeing what I'll have to engineer to make it work. Why, ooooooooohhhhhh why could they not give the G the Z's mounting system, plus they put stuff in the way, making it even more difficult. I'm thinking of creating a post in the tech section about what I've found out, with pics of course.

Dang straight, it's all about the glory of helping. Who have you helped today?

No brembos, but I do have the 5AT with unlimited brakes repair per TSB and warranty,
.
Try to not overheat the brakes and you'll be fine in the twisties.

Re: Autocrossing the G
I plan on autocrossing mine next year. There is no way it will win at the big events against the S2000s(especially the new 2.2l) in BS. The sedans have a better chance in DS, where the 330Ci is one of the top contenders. But I think I may have found a good fit for it. I will be running STX instead. I'll try the pilots first and if it does well, I will probably get a 2nd set of wheels with a set of KDs.
Next year STX will be a full national class. It is basically for 4-seat cars with a normally aspirated displacement up to 5.1 L or a forced induction displacement of up to 2.0 L. You are allowed brake and suspension upgrades that are pretty open. Wheels can not be wider than 8" and tires are limited to a maximum of 245s. I already run 245's all the way around onf stock wheels, so this is perfect for the class. You can do minor power upgrades: intakes up to throttle boady(CAI), headers, hi-flow cats and exhausts. The Lancer EVO and RX8 have been excluded. Right now the only real cars to run STX are WRXs. It is still a very underdeveloped class. Although there was no jacket at nationals, the slower STS class(NA 3.0L and under with no LSDa) has actually been faster for the first 2 years STX existed. I have always looked at the class and felt that a properly prepared Mustang(basically a full ESP car with a stock motor) could take the class, but no one has seriously prepared a car. This still leaves a big hole. The G35 lacks a Mustangs displacement, but has a silimar torque curve and a better suspension to work with. It has a lot more torque to work off the corners than a WRX, but more weight to through around. It should be pretty even on the field.
