speeding ticket

Hey guys I just got my first speeding ticket in the G yesterday.. 82 in a 65. $280!!!! This was in Connecticut. I'm from NY... anyone with experience with tickets in CT know how easy or hard it is to fight a ticket? I'm a student so I figure I can have my date pushed back and back until like June or so and then hope the cop won't show up. Another thing is under race he wrote "W" which i guess means white? i am asian.. i don't know if this will give me any sort of edge.

Any advice?

Thanks

LOL mixed your funny... seriously though why fight it. Just see if you can appeal it and get like 3 months safe driving and a cheaper price on ticket and off your record or something thats a deal you get here in utah if your busted in the murray area but I dont know if it applies in ur area.

Do you think being Asian will get you out of the ticket?

Re: speeding ticket

No, what he meant was, that all details on the ticket, must be filled in, correctly by the cop. A mistake, such as writing the wrong scene address / location, or wrong vehicle information will void the ticket. I've never heard of a "Race" mistake, but it's worth a shot. Another thing is, you might want to look into this thread over at FA, http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthre...b=5&o=&fpart=1 posted a couple a days ago. Look at some of the replies, some of the people are from NY as well, and claim that under NY laws, any out-of-state speeding ticket, is just like a simple fine (same affect as a parking ticket), that won't go on your records. I got a ticket in CT, and you can see my reply to that guys in that same thread. Again, I'm from CT, not NY and so I can't tell you for sure what will happen in your case.

Re: speeding ticket

fighting it pays off. in nj, if you go to court, prosecutor will knock a 4 pt ticket down to a two point ticket just for asking. this way you plead guilty, its a non issue.

also, if you can keep getting it postponed, you have chance that officer won't come. i did it and ticket was dropped.

Re: speeding ticket

Yeah, that was me on the freshalloy forum saying that NY drivers don't get assessed points for out-of-state speeding tickets.

And it's true. My advice would be to just plead guilty and pay the fine. Your NY driver's license and insurance will not be affected. The way I see it, paying a speeding ticket fine is nothing compared to having your insurance rates go up because of points on your license.

Re: speeding ticket

hmm, I was aware that I won't get points on my license because its out of state... but I thought that my insurance would still go up because the insurance company will still find out about the ticket and they don't use the same point system as the DMV to calculate our premiums.

Re: speeding ticket

Hitman,

You are right.... I lived in NY my whole life before I moved out to Cali and got some speeding tickets in NJ going up to school in Binghamton (NY).... These tickets do not go against your NY record, and I believe that the insurance company doesn't review these out-of-state tickets, so it should not affect your insurance (at least not for me in NY)... Others can post differently based on their experience.

So, with those two ++ in mind, I would suck up the $280 and not worry about traveling back to CT to go to court. If you got the ticket in NY, my advice would be to plead not-guilty and try to get a reduced sentence in court.... My 2 cents....

Re: speeding ticket

I'm from ct. Which court would you have to appear in? How far would it be? One ticket I got I fought in the Bridgeport court...got my fine reduced from 240 to 100...not bad since I was caught in a construction zone and the ticket reflected that. The Bridgeport court is GHETTO though...be warned. I had a freind who got his ticket in a smaller town (I forget which) and had to pay the full fine.
I would say fight it if it's not too inconvienient to get to the court...and the more people you think will be there the better since the judge will just want to give you a quick discount to keep the line moving...

Re: speeding ticket

I believe you're right about the insurance company point system being different than the DMV point system.

But your insurance company will never even find out about the out-of-state ticket, regardless of the point system, so long as you plead guilty and pay the fine.

Re: speeding ticket

you won't have to go to court, just pay it and be done with it. i got caught doing 88 in a 55 in bedford ny, and i'm from nj. mailed the court my $350 and was done with it.

Re: speeding ticket

Serum,

But you got points on your NJ license, right?

I only ask because the DMV in NJ says that you should have gotten points.

Did you ever get an abstract of your driver's license to make sure?
