Re: K&N Typhoon Installed
Doc, From what I've heard, most dealers (including mine) have an open mind on mods, even help with and install these kits.
There are some horror stories with different dealers freaking out, but mostly they're open minded from what I've read.
You'll have to talk to your dealer for an idea on where they stand, but I believe the rule is that warranty should not be denied unless the mod can be proven to cause the failure or problem.
This kind of mod is very straightforward and shouldn't cause anybody any bother, but many have said they'll replace the stock intake to be safe if warranty is needed.

Re: K&N Typhoon Installed
I agree completely about the state of mind of most dealers.
As for the actual law let me pass this along...
I was huge into Jeeps for a very long time. I bought a brand new 1998 Wrangler, and immediately started major mods on it. 4.5" suspension lift, air controlled shocks, custom drive shaft, 35" tires, etc, etc, etc.
By about 10K miles I was having major brake rotor problems on the front. I took it to the dealer and they said the rotors needed to be replaced and they weren't under warrenty because they believed it was due to the fact my Jeep seen mud and water and such. They actually claimed it was because if one wheel was submerged and the other wasn't the uneven heating and cooling would result.
Anyways, we contacted a lawyer and he immediately got it resolved (for free, he was a car lover). The basic jist was that Jeep couldn't prove it was due to anything that this vehicle was not designed for. Remember the Jeep commercials with the Jeep covered in mud etc?
Well, that is how the vehicle is sold etc. Now there is a law associated with aftermarket mods, though I am unsure exactly what it is.
Now I later went to a different dealer because of an abnormal sound from the rear differential. They took it apart and inspected...it was fine. The sound was actually coming from my custom drive shaft knocking into the ujoint. Well, they covered the diff fluid and the labor and a new ujoint under warrenty and they loved the Jeep, begged me to come for demos and such.
So those two experiances my give you some insight. An a$$hole dealer is an a$$hole dealer...but some are great.
I had my first oil change today at Infiniti. They loved my car, brought all the people out to see it, etc. Thought the CAI looked awesome and even tried to correct my slightly negative camber on my rear tires (because of my massive drop).
So, all is cool with minor mods like this. I do think, from talking to them, a supercharger or turbo would void the engine warrenty if something like the engine blew, etc.
Just my experiences.

Re: K&N Typhoon Installed
hey nice pics man...i am thinking to get a K&N intake as well...from the two different K&N intake on both cars i can see that the plastic tube that connects the metal tube together is different in color wise one is black and the other is light blue....i wonder if we can choose the color when we buy it...coz i want a polish one with red plastic tubing to match the grounding kit.....

Hi orljmh,
I went on www.4filters.com, but they don't show any pictures of the Typhoon intake... There are three part numbers listed on the site for the $237 CAI... Is that just the different colors or what? And is there a different one for the 6MT model or are they all the same for the coupe?
Secondly, did you buy an AEM bypass filter? If so, how did it work with your setup? Should there be any HP/Torque difference between using a bypass filter and not using a bypass filter? Probably not, but just thought I would ask. Thanks

Re: K&N Typhoon Installed
Will the AEM bypass valve fit in the Injen CAI as well?
Do I really need a bypass valve if I live in Southern California (San Diego)? Or is it for only flood type areas of the country?
