Injen or K&N Intake?

Which do you guys prefer? I'm looking for one that will give decent gains, sounds good and is reliable/ well constructed.

I know that the K&N just came out, but I have never really heard of K&N intakes before. The only companies that are well known are Injen and AEM.

Thanks.

Re: Injen or K&N Intake?

I have seen both upclose and I chose the K&N. The advertised dyno results were similar and I saved about $55 on the polished intake. I also really liked the "built-in" mass air flow sensor mount.

And eventhough K&N intakes aren't as well known as Injen they have been making filters forever...and I am sure the numbers would be dramatically larger for filter sales alone for K&N versus any other company. Which gives me the impression that they know what they are doing and have R&D budget to get it right.

I have always used their drop ins and such and I guess since I couldn't find any negative feedback, I stayed loyal.

As far as construction, both systems are top notch.

Re: Injen or K&N Intake?

So the Injen CAI doesnt have a mass aur flow sensor mount?

Then where would I put it so the car wont stall? Or do they both have one?

Re: Injen or K&N Intake?

The Injen uses the stock piece off of the stock air box where you mount the MAF sensor, so there is an addidional rubber gasket.

Check this awesome DIY from Jason at g35coupe.net

Hope this helps.

Go with the K & N Typhoon they just released. I have it and love it. Good sound, good hp increase and you can definitely feel the difference. Also, I've heard of some people here who've had problems with the Injen intake. You have a choice between the polished, powder coated blue, red, or silver colors.

Re: Injen or K&N Intake?

I would go with the K&N as well. Although most Japanese tuners would probably go with Injen, I think the K&N is definately a good piece of aftermarket design mods.

Re: Injen or K&N Intake?

i was wondering if this was true...

my friend told me that hes not putting on an intake on his Z because there arent proven HP gains....something about the companys who make the intakes have biased dynos.

Re: Injen or K&N Intake?

Since there are already two documented cases of blown engines from swamping the Injen filter (one 350Z, one G), I didn't even consider it. The Nismo is nearly identical in design, except with a bypass valve to prevent that exact problem. I know it's rare, and likely won't happen to most people, but the cost and performance is the same so why not get the Nismo?

Regarding the K&N, I hear good things but haven't seen or heard one, nor have I seen any performance stats. To hear the Nismo, go to the DIY (link in my sig). There are video and audio clips there. It sounds awesome.

Re: Injen or K&N Intake?

I just got mine at performancenissanparts.com for $249. Go to the 350z section. It seems like you need that bypass valve if you want a cai for our cars. I saw an AEM on a 350z this weekend and it's jammed down by the ground also. I think the guy said he paid about $200-220 but the bypass is an extra 80.

I also just noticed that they added a Nismo thermostat. Anyone know anything about this?

Re: Injen or K&N Intake?

You should be able to find the AeM bypass valve for 45.00. I used a 3" one and it fit my K&N CAI perfectly.
