Wish G35 coupe MT had the same clutch and shifter as Acura TL or BMW 330i . Those two clutchs and shifters are the most smooth one I have ever tested.

It sounds like you've been driving the car around like a grandma. Until I really started driving the car around like it was meant to be I thought the same thing. After grinding once in 3rd and constantly driving at high RPM's the tranny shifts like butta. I think the nissan manual tranny just has a long break in period.

Agreed, after babying the MT through breakin it felt a bit stiff and notchy, now it is slick (5000mi) - driving much harder as well, only now notice the "click" into 5th - not obtrusive, just a nice mecanical feedback that you are "there"....

the 1st to 2nd shift is still a little annoying to get into but can't beat the feeling of shifting into third and feeling/hearing the snick snick as it goes into the gear...man, awesome feeling

It's good to hear that the 6MT shifts better after break-in. After reading magazine articles about how good the shifter is, I was quite disappointed in the shifter during a test drive. It was not nearly as good as my S2000's shifter. Hopefully I will get accustomed to the G shifter.

I agree . . I have 7500 mi and the entire car is better and smoother after break in . . .the shifter is excellent and more in line with the essence of the car . . .

I can understand there. The G will never feel like your s2000 shifting. It's because only Honda's have that cheap light weight toy feeling. Same with their bikes. The G has very nice firm solid shifting. You might like it a lot better when you get used to it.

Yea, I'm not a fan of Honda shifting either.

I don't understand what you mean exactly. The S2000 has much closer gates and the action is quicker, so you can shift much faster. That is nothing but good. When I test drove the G35, I kept banging the stick into the middle of the gate on the 2-3 shift, because the gates are further apart, which means that more effort and more time are required to move the stick through the gates. I don't see why shifters are designed with the gates so far apart. All automotive transmission designers should be required to drive an S2000 for a while to see how a clutch and shifter should be designed.

just get a short shifter kit for your g35 then. You'll get the short gate feeling. I was messing around one day and drove without a shift ****. The shifting was very nice, you can feel where each gate was and shorter throw. It was hard to get a grip of the couple inches of thread though. Then a v6 accord started trying to race.
I'm looking for a true short shifter kit. Not just a shortened stem. The correct way to get true short shifting is to move the actual pivit ball up. I can't find one like that or an adjustable one.
