VDC and peeling out
VDC and peeling out
When you guys need to get going fast and spin the tires a bit, so you turn off the vdc? I start off great but then shifting into 2nd there is tire spin and the vdc cuts off my power, grrr
Re: VDC and peeling out
yeah doesn't feel too good huh? feels like someone kicked you in the back and your feet are sitting on a ps2 analog controller.

Re: VDC and peeling out
I use to "peel out" in high school. The VDC is doing exactly what it is supposed to do. It is protecting your $1000 worth of tires. Shut it off if you want to spin the tire. The michelin pilots wont last to long if you do it alot.

Re: VDC and peeling out
I think some people have said if you spin out with vdc on too often it's bad for the clutch. I don't know the technical side of it, I just turn it off every time I get in the car.

ya right I could care less about the tires. I'm more worried about the 37k worth of metal I'm sitting in.
TrentaCinque - I heard it releases the power at the clutch and applies brakes to the wheel with lost traction. That's why after a nice run in the twisties during rain you'll get out to a nice smell of burning break/clutch pad. I always turn off the VDC when it's dry.

Re: VDC and peeling out
With one of my service loaners, we tested this. I turned off the VDC and put it in first. I power braked it up to about 2200 rpms where the stall seems to be. After holding the brake for about 30 seconds, the tires started to brake loose. After enough rubber was layed down to loosen up traction more, the car starts to spining the tires madly about 30 seconds later. From there you can smoke them as long as you like by just giving slight modulation to the brake. I managed to only remove about 1/32 of tread in doing about a 2-minute standing burnout, which completely filled the parking lot with smoke. I let off the brake and followed by a 20 foor stripe laydown. This particular car was a non-sport with the all-weather package. To my surprise, it did have an LSD. It made 2 nice even stripes the whole way. I have pics at home, so I'll try to post one later.

I think that if you're driving normally (such as avoiding getting a ticket in my case, I'm 16 and a speeding ticket in this car would sky rocket my insurance) then the VDC really never kicks in. So leaving it on is a good idea if you suddenly wanna make that left turn light. =) It is just trying to protect ur 40k toy.
