Useless Back Seat

I had a 350Z on preorder last year and switched to the coupe to satisfy a number of issues, one being the back seat. I still follow Zcar.com forum and repeatedly hear members referring to our back seats as useless. I don't agree. My 5'2" 14 year old daughter fits quite comfortably back there and taller people are ok for short trips. I get to take my car on trips that would have required me to leave it at home had I got the 350Z. Not to mention that I do not feel that I gave up a lot driving wise by going with the coupe. I can also go on a weekend trip taking more than the clothes on my back. No regrets for having changed my mind.

Re: Useless Back Seat

I agree. The rear seat is one of the reasons why I chose the G35 Coupe over the Z. My family and I are short, so there's no problem. My taller friends hit their heads on the glass, but they manage. To some, the seat might be useless, but it's nice to have when you need them. Plus you can store more stuff back there. There's hardly any cargo room in a Z! The huge rear strut tower brace gets in the way. But I like the Z too.. it's was actually my first choice and I actually bought one last year, I don't have it anymore.. but that's a looong story.

Totally agree. I took my G on a 1500 mile trip with 3 other friends. I also take my G with the family (wife, 2 kids) anytime we go anywhere, including two 1-week long vacations.

Re: Useless Back Seat

My 7 and 4 year old fit perfectly in the back. I have had normal size friends sit back there - if they complain I rev the engine to drown them out.

you should tell them it isn't nearly as useless as that stupid "hatch" storage area with the giant stabilizer bar in the middle of it.

Re: Useless Back Seat

I think the subject should be useFUL back seat. I usually don't use the backseat often ( I was about to buy a Track Options 350Z myself ) but switched to the coupe for interior reasons. I was kind of mad that it had backseats in the beginning, but I found out they were foldable so it was cool. The cool thing about them is Asian girls love getting rides back there. They being < 5'4" fit perfect. Haha. My little sister fits fine too, she's 5. I think in hindsight its pretty cool having an extra pair of seats just incase. You can fit longer stuff better too its pretty cool. I agree on the USELESS trunk of the 350z. i could barely fit my backpack back there, not to even bring up things like a big bag or something for sports or what not. The 350z is basically big enough for 2 people and some minor belongings.

Re: Useless Back Seat

The Z was never intended to be a car that was going to be driven on long trips...Why would a true sports car (as true as one can be these days) have a large storage area? It's meant for spirited driving...The Z and G35C each fulfill separate market niches: the true sports car and the luxury sports car...The luxury ride has storage and that makes sense

Re: Useless Back Seat

True, true, DragonGcoupe. There have been AT LEAST a handful of occasions where the backseat has come in handy....like offering a chick and her female friends a ride home after a long nite of clubbing, for instance.

Re: Useless Back Seat

That's BS I think what the 350z crowd is saying. I just tell you straight that the car has many better things than the Z has.

1. 2+2 seater
2. Bigger Trunk
3. It looks better

lol

Re: Useless Back Seat

True there are pros and cons to each car, but to say our Gcoupes look better is pushing it to me.

Re: Useless Back Seat

I stand by my opinion: the Z is Nissan's "raw" (it's we're in the 2000s so no car out is really raw) sports car and the G is Nissan's luxury sports coupe...The Z can fit a set of golf clubs in the back (I tested that at the dealership I worked at) and that's about it...A few duffel bags or small suitcases but not much more...To some the back seat is a pro, to others it's a con...It's all conjecture and up to your personal desires...I love the Z and think it's the top performer for the price tag...But I also love the G...It's all Nissan VQ35 power so it really shouldn't be something to argue over
